Explorer Card Trip Delay Coverage

I know that if I have to have an overnight or am delayed 12 hours or more, I can get up to $500. A few questions though:

-Is it one-way or round-trip? If round-trip, what if I am only flying one-way?
-What if I fly open-jaw or fly different carriers each way?
-If I use my card to buy a ticket for my 12 year old, who is not an authorized user, to travel by themselves on Southwest? Would they still have the same coverage since they are immediate family?
-What if I think I'm forced to overnight but not actually? Like, if I'm flying SFO-IAH-DCA, and my flight from SFO-IAH is 3 hours late and will miss the last IAH-DCA of the day, so I book a hotel and get rebooked on the morning IAH-DCA, and then the last IAH-DCA is delayed 4 hours and I could have made it. What would happen in this case?
-If I was booked on the last flight of the day from SFO-SEA and I had a pre-paid non-refundable hotel booked at SEA and the flight was cancelled, would Chase reimburse me for the night of hotel I didn't get to use due to travel delay?

Some of these questions are pretty esoteric. I suggest calling Chase or using their online messaging system.

Or reading their coverage guide.

OK Called Chase.
-Only eligible for round-trip.
-If open jaw, needs to be from the same area, so SFO-DCA, IAD-SFO is ok, but SFO-IAD, JFK-SFO is not. Ok to be booked on different carriers as long as outbound and inbound are both booked on MP Explorer Card.
-Yes, applies to immediate family until children turn 22 even if they are travelling on other airlines without the cardholder.
-Would be reviewed on a case by case basis.
-Reimbursement only if severe weather caused the entire trip to be cancelled.
