Base fare and taxes of the ticket price suddenly changed!

I'm purchasing a ticket and purchase summary is:

Ticket Price
1 Adult (18-64) $1,399.00
Additional Taxes/Fees $169.00
Total $1,568.00

Without purchasing the ticket, I immediately see that I already have a confirmation number and I can see my reservation in the "View Current Reservation" section. However, the price is not:

1 Adult (18-64) $883.00
Taxes/Fees $685.00
Total $1,568.00

I called the premier desk and they confirmed that the last price ($883 base fare and $685 taxes).

Has anybody seen something like this? 500 PQD is a lot, specially in my case where I'm struggling to get to Gold this year (it's 10%!).

It's a known display problem. When you purchase, they list the International Surcharge (YQ) as part of the price, with taxes separate, but after you've booked it moves the YQ into the Taxes/Fees. You can click on View Receipt and see the YQ, which qualifies for PQD.

I believe it has to do with regulations about how fares are quoted.

On a slightly different note, I noticed the September 11 fee jumped 0.60 cents to $5.60. I recently made an award booking and noticed the customary charge of $5.00 jumped to $5.60.

When did this happen?

neither the price nor the PQDs earned changed, just a difference in display of the breakout of the sub-components (and as mentioned, it is believed this is based on some guideline / regulation).

Just to confirm then, I'm currently seeing

Additional Taxes/Fees $682.70

and the breakdown is

Germany Air Transportation Tax $57.40
U.S. Customs User Fee $5.50
U.S. APHIS User Fee $5.00
U.S. Federal Transportation Tax $35.00
Germany Airport Security Charge $7.60
U.S. Immigration User Fee $7.00
Germany Passenger Service Charge $27.50
International Surcharge $516.00
U.S. Passenger Facility Charge $10.50
September 11th Security Fee $11.20

Per the PQD FAQ

You earn PQD for the base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges on eligible flights.
Therefore the International Surcharge of $516.00 goes towards PQD.

Given the question has been resolved and the same issues are discussed in multiple threads

So we will close this thread and suggest further discussion be in one of the above threads.
