Does UA overbook three class First??

Looking at DEN-HNL next week. Three class 772.
Seat map page shows all seats assigned and "Sold Out".

Yet, MP is apparently willing to sell two Saver seats into a Sold Out F cabin.

Will they really overbook or would it simply error out before accepting?

If they sell all 8 seats, they'll put crew rest in J.

The expertflyer seat map shows that seats 2A,2K do not exist from the GDS's point of view. Those must be blocked.

They did with me... I booked two seats DEN-HNL in F. Seat map showed full. I figured they were selling the blocked seats. I called in to get a seat assignment and they said F was oversold and they put me in J and refunded the difference in miles and gave me to $300 ecerts

These were award seats... This may be a glitch that opens SAVER award availability after (3-cabin) F is full.

I see this happen mostly when looking for award space in F. Sometimes, you have to be careful when there are connections in 3-class - 1st leg (fine), 2nd leg (oversold). If you want the F seat, always be sure you can select a seat, when booking awards.

Um, this sounds like it would be fairly easy to abuse.

Downgrade compensation for a 3,000-mile flight like that is a $1,000 e-cert + the refund.

If this happened recently, I would write in and request the difference you're owed per the policy.

Indeed. Even at a $300 voucher per ticket, an interesting strategy. At $1,000, wow.

It happened about 60 days out, so I think it was fair.

It's not exactly fair when the policy says you get a $1,000 voucher.

They ripped you off at $700 per person.

however, flight does not exceed 8 hours, so there is no blocked crew rest seats on the entire plane.

as for booking, the authorization levels i've seen are always at 8, so a forced override to book a 9 is rare.

I'll look into it... perhaps I was short-changed.
