Need advice before purchasing an A fare (EUP)

Dear sages,

There's a 3 class 777 flying LAX-IAD. (Not sure if a one-off, or just the day I want to fly).

I have a ticket on hold that booked into A class (but it's an econ fare with an upgrade). Neither UAL.com nor the agent is able to assign a seat, though there are many available on the generic seat map).

Questions:

1) Does "A" map into business or first?
2) If it maps info F, but I somehow end up in C - will I be able to refund before the flight?

Thanks in advance!

A is FIRST
As far as refunding....probably not. There are many V fares that book into A. It goes by fare basis, not class booked into. Check the rules before you purchase

It should say First on your held reservation.

I wouldn't worry about the lack of seats. F is a small cabin, and they usually hold back 1 or 2 seats for crew rest (which they don't need on such a flight). They will open at checkin.

Thanks for the feedback. Reservation agent insisted it will map into business first on the 3 cabin flight. (She also insisted the reason I can't get a seat is that UA doesn't allow you to get a seat until you are ticketed. So from there alone I know the dots aren't connecting).
