Flew SFO-ORD last week on United after my American flight was delayed 3 hours. AA endorsed the ticket over to United. I pulled up the reservation on my United iOS application, purchased an upgrade to an exit row aisle seat and used the Passbook boarding pass.
This has happened to me about half a dozen times over the last two years and I've always been awarded United flight credit, but this time not. The iOS boarding pass does not provide you a United ticket number to request retroactive mileage credit. I received an American receipt, but the ticket number referenced is my original American ticket number -001, not -016.
Any suggestions on next steps?

Since your routing was the same - viz. SFO-ORD - there was no need to reissue the ticket; only the space reservation was changed. You flew UA using a 001 ticket.

Just call with flight date/number and last name, they can find you, and will apply mileage appropriately. Fortunately when changing airlines you are always booked into Y class for the bonus.Originally Posted by FightingIlliniUAL

This is definitely not always the case with United these days.Originally Posted by lalalandMCI

A rebooking at the end of 2013 on UA > AA put me into full Y. Not guaranteed, but it seems to happen more often than not.
@OP: Don't forget to claim the miles for the AA flight, if you've not already done so.
