First MR!
Hello. To begin, sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm new
I'm on the verge of purchasing my first MR for UA and I wanted to clarify some things first. I have used the phone lock to secure myself a day or two before pulling the trigger.
First, I'm on the LAX-BAH run (11/16-11/23). I'm based out of FLL, though. I altered my return to be BAH-MIA (via LAX). On the outgoing, I am looking at a one-way FLL-LAX flight on 11/15 to round out my itinerary.
If I am unable to make the LAX flight, because of an issue with my FLL flight, will UA attempt to accommodate me, or just cancel the ticket? I would imagine they would accommodate me, but most likely alter the itinerary somehow. This might bump my cpm, but at least I wouldn't be SOL.
That the tickets aren't on the same itinerary is what concerns me. Which way will this go? I may change my LAX outbound to later in the day, just in case, but thought it would be nice to know either way.
Second, I don't want to spend a week in BAH. A day or two will be sufficient for me. I have found some great fares from BAH using TK. I'm allotting a day or two on either side of the nested itinerary. However, what if a freak blizzard should hit, and I'm stranded somewhere for 5 days? I will eventually get back to BAH, but my outgoing will be long gone.
Given it is one big star-alliance, will I be accommodated? Again, these are different itineraries, hence my concern.
Note, I've made sure the TK are all mile earning.
Sorry for such a lengthy post! I just wanted to avoid bungling my first MR and feeling like an idiot.

1. You are not guaranteed anything since on separate itineraries. Having said that, you're playing it pretty safe.
2. If you miss, the carriers "might" put you on space available standby for no fee, since it was another *A carrier that forced you to miss the flight.
3. Make sure those TK flights accrue to UA MP - most cheap fares do not.

Welcome to Flyertalk drewp123!
Wow, what an awesome first mileage run, and it's international (and nested!) to boot. Your itinerary looks good to me, but I'm still a mileage run newbie myself, so I'm sure the more seasoned among us will chime in.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I am going to book the tickets. Hopefully I don't have to put their rebooking policy to the test.
I was sure to be safe about the fares. It was this problem that kept me from doing a similar trip using IST as the destination. The Lufthansa fares weren't very friendly =(
Imagine spending time on a plane and not getting any miles. The horror.
Thanks for the hello love_to_travel!

Another welcome to FT! We have a good discussion of this MR in the MR forum, so feel free to check there.
I'm also on the 11/16 IAD-BAH flight, but with some other routing issues due to the reduction in service that affects KWI and BAH. If interested, touch base closer to the run and we can connect in LAX or IAD.
