R space availability question

Was planing a HNL-KWI in W class so I can upgrade using GPUs. When I check the HNL-IAD-KWI option, both flights show R=0. But when I check the HNL-EWR-IAD-KWI option, the first leg still has R=0, but the IAD-KWI now has R=6. What gives?

You have to search segment-by-segment for availability. The system will show the lowest number for the collection of segments being displayed if there is a connection involved.

But both the HNL-IAD and the HNL-EWR are at R=0. The only difference is the IAD-KWI.

Still, if you search IAD-KWI and it shows R6, you'll be able to confirm your upgrade.

It's probably a fare break or not showing as part of the overall segment availability.

As the advice given notes, search each segment by itself.

FYI for OP, even a segment showing 0 in the group search might be >0 and can clear (hence the segment by segment check suggestion). Direct flights are an exception in the sense if either leg is 0, neither will clear unless you split the segments.
