Purchasing Upgrade

For the first time in about 4 years I'm flying on United without status. I have a trip coming up CLE > CUN, non-stop, and I have an upgrade option of $582 round-trip. I'm thinking that's not quite worth it for a 3.5 hour trip, but does anyone know if this offer could fluctuate leading up to the trip?

I tried searching for the answer but couldn't find anything recent about this.

Thanks!

Yes the prices change but not always the way you want them too.

I assumed you purchased already.

I recently booked CLE-SEA via IAH.G fare (lowest fare bucket, I think). After booking, it gave me the option of upgrading all four segments for $2300 total. Out of curiosity, I logged off and checked the same itinerary in FC -- resulting fare was $1690, more then $600 cheaper than the upgrade fare! This probably doesn't happen too often, but may be worth while checking paid F before booking.

In my opinion, that is definitely not worth it (though that upgrade price RT on premium JFK-LAX/SFO would be). As others have said, the price does fluctuate (even in and out of existence if they decide to stop selling upgrades on your flights) all the way until check in and boarding.

Yesterday, on the mobile app it offered me $129 to upgrade my SFO-LAX segment to F. The same offer online (united.com - check-in) was $780!
Crazy!

It can always fluctuate....especially within 24 hours of departure.

How bout this one, I booked DEN-ATL for 2 pax and it offered me upgrade to F for $50 a passenger at time of booking! It's only a CR700, but for 50 bucks on a 3 hour flight...no brainer. First time I've EVER bought an upgrade...

I'm actually more willing to spend for an upgrade (instruments or cash) on the CR7. The gulf between Y and F on that plane is huuuuuuge despite the F cabin being nothing spectacular. I have burned RPUs on DEN-ATL and vv before -- totally worth it for a 3 hour flight in that plane. I would not hesitate to spend $50, or probably even $150, to save a RPU and confirm it with cash

Was this at check in? I've only seen offers to buy up during the initial flight purchase and check in.
