Eastern Airlines in '82 or so. Joined MP and OnePass in '84 when I moved to Colorado.

UA 07/1981, it was my first FF account, but my relationship with UA didn't last long since UA essentially quit CLE, and only the occasional UA flight (and Delta when they were partners) was credited to UA. Joined PI, EA, and ML just after joining UA.

Switched my flying largely to US who not only was building a hub at CLE but also provided the single best network for my needs and customer service I have ever seen (earning first on a PI plan). Then moved to CO as primary carrier (using my old EA account) once CO began to not only be #1 in CLE but also, IMO, the country's best airline; credited HP, DL & NW miles to CO as well. When I relocated to PHL began to fly US again, but still was #1 with CO. The only times I flew HP, I had those miles credited to CO; stoped flying them after HP/CO divorced. After HP bought US, I started to earn US miles in droves for my frequent flying RJ to/from AMM; HP and RJ had been bilateral partners (that relationship continues between US & RJ, depsite RJ being in One World now). After CO left Skyteam, I had to get a DL account for my NW/DL flying, but kept CO as #1 airline. At that point, my US flights and my occasional UA flights began being posted to my CO account rather than my US account. With the UA/CO merger, I merged the paltry balance (about 150,000 miles) in my UA account with my larger CO account, which of course then became my UA accont. Since then, my US account has been dorment and my DL account only occasionally used. I have a very small AA account which I use when flying BA between LON and Europe) and now it seems I'll end up with accounts with AA, DL, and UA. One for each alliance. My WN account has not be used since they converted to the point system which put them at a disadvantage for my business. And of course, ML folded one day before I had planned to book several award trips.

I just got a happy 20th anniversary banner on my Mileage Plus page. How long have you been a member? According to Wikipedia, FF programs have been in existence since 1979.

And that first program was started by UA legacy carrier TI.

I was, um, 33 in 1981, which makes me how old now?...

Old enough to remember quite a few airlines which are no longer with us including UA legacies TI, NY, PE, FL, CO and partial legacies EA & PA. As well as old enough to remember UA being a partner with DL, HP being a partner first with NW and then with CO.

Perhaps they skiped the 13 number for awhile. Stranger things have been known to happen.

Joined both AA's and UA's programs in 06/81...my original MP# was 00010xxxxxx...It took me 12 years to make MM...another 7 to make 2MM...another 6 to make 3MM...and now approaching 4MM! I can guarantee that I will not reach 5MM...It is not as much fun as it used to be!

For what it is worth, starting in 1955 I flew TWA nearly 1.2 million miles (1KPathDad was a TWA pilot) and I am approaching 2MM BIS on AA...Is it any wonder that I can't sleep well in anything but an airline seat;)

Years ago, I had a MP VP tell me just this...and that certain #s were not issued in Asia for cultural reasons.

I remember joining One Pass in 1985 to earn miles on Eastern Airlines. My first big flight on CO was in 1990 (from California to Manila via Honolulu--even got an op up to biz on the way back). Was only flying once a year (if that) through the 90s. Cashed in a lot of miles around 2003 for a bunch of tickets to Hawaii. I really can't remember when I signed up for UA's program--sometime in the 1980s would be my guess. My number was 00181 if that helps pinpoint it but the card is at home and I am on the road so I can't look it up online. Probably earned a grand total of one lower 48 economy class ticket with Mileage Plus :p

September 30, 1992. It's hard to believe it's been twenty years! My first 1K year was 1996. I didn't reach 1K again until 2003, but I've been a 1K for each of the last 10 years.
