Problems checking in if EWR-ABE segment exists

I'm mostly polling other FTers to see if it's just me (as UA claims) or if this is a more general problem.

Basically I have to go to Allentown, PA a lot and have found the bus "flight" from EWR-ABE and back to be the most reliable vs ORD-ABE and IAD-ABE. However, more often than not (probably 2/3 of the time), if I have the EWR-ABE or ABE-EWR segment, I can never check in online and need to actually go to the airport to get them to do something and manually check-in.

I could always wait till I get to the airport but I want to be able to pick seats in the 24 hour range (since I'm 2P) and also see what my options are for TODs.

Does anyone else have these sort of checkin problems?

I recently posted about a similar experience (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...nited-com.html). Couldn't do OLCI for the outbound part of my trip. I didn't figure out what was the reason, but I suspect it was because of a particular segment in my itinerary. I definitely agree that not having access to the OLCI (or any of the mobile check-in) features is a big inconvenience. If you're able to figure out a way around this problem, let us know!

I am a little closer to figuring out something... When the seat map for the bus "flight" shows up with only 2 seats, the computer doesn't know what to do with that segment. When the seat map shows up properly with 24 seats, then I'm able to checkin because it knows there's a "flight" there. Airport agents have said that sometimes the bus flights read as "open" segments with no equipment/vehicle and so if you can't get a seat (since there are no open "seats" to begin with), then you can't check in. I've tried to contact IT and such but with no avail. Many people on the ABE/EWR bus I've talked to said they have this same problem...
