Welcome to FT!, Anasha1 -- sorry for the circumstances.

I moved your post here so you can see the experiences of others with a lost item.
In the future please don't post the same item in multiple threads.

Good luck!

Quite a few posts have come in between my inquiry about my lost Ipad, but I wanted to let everyone know that about two months later the Ipad was returned to me by United. So good for them. Of course, I had bought a new Ipad in those two months and now have two! But thanks, United employees who tracked that down.

Lost Passport - United Found It!

Sometimes you need to tell the good things that an airline does! I stupidly (don't remind me) left my passport in my seat back pocket on a flight back from LAX on Monday night. I didn't realize it until Tuesday night which is when I filed the lost item online form. I was giving them till tomorrow before I called the State Dep't to cancel my passport, but I can happily say that United just called and said they found it! They are FedExing it back to me and I am so relieved. I won't make that mistake again...nothing is going in that seat back pocket ever again! Thanks United!

Excellent and congrats!

Impressive! And are they paying for FedEx too? Now if they could just improve the wines they serve ... :)

I left my iPad mini in the seatback pocket on an EWR-FLL flight. My husband called later that evening to say United had left a voicemail for me at th ehome number asking me to contact them urgently for an important item left behind. I had gone to my meetings directly from the airport and did not miss my iPad yet.

Called the number given by UA and sure enough, they had my iPad. Cleaning crew or the next passenger in that seat must have found it and returned it immediately. I was able to pick it up on my way home.

Contrast this to my experience with LH - I left my Kindle Fire in the container between seats (I was in BF section). Realized it as soon as I got to the lounge (maybe 20 mins after landing). I had a 7 hr layover. Asked the lounge agents for help. The aircraft was moved already by then apparently. Tried talking to anyone and everyone - no one helped. I got on my next flight without my Kindle and had an interesting 3 week vacation without a Kindle. Had to hit the bookstores as soon as I landed.

PS Yet another time, I left my Kindle on a plane - this time on a UA flight. Landed in EWR - home airport... was walkign away when I heard myself being paged. Got back to the gate - was handed my Kindle. I must be lucky!

lost items

I left a jacket on a recent UA flight. I realized it when I was in the lounge between flights. flew business transpac, transferred to domestic. lounge agents called ops and the plane had "already been serviced and pushed off the gate for maintenance. i was able to file a very detailed report, i know exactly where it was, etc. it's been a week and no word. i fear a cleaner has a nice new polartec jacket. anyone else have experience good or bad? anything you can suggest to try to goose the situation, maybe it gets returned? thanks.

I recently lost my wallet on board. Realized the following morning, made a report, cancelled all my cards. I haven't heard crap since then (2+ weeks ago). I'm not worried about my cards and the minimal cash i carried. But the wallet was from a leather shop in London. I miss the wallet.

Dropped Very Expensive Pen on UA Flight

My father flew up to EWR this morning and dropped a pen worth hundreds of dollars on the floor of the first class cabin as he fell asleep doing work. He noticed that the pen was missing when he was packing up his stuff during deplaning. He asked the FA if she had seen anything, and, to his surprise, she reported that the gentleman two rows ahead of him had spent a suspiciously long time staring at a pen (to the point that she noticed it) and then proceeded to take it for himself. So we know the seat number. Is there any possibility of UA contacting the individual? Or is this a lost cause – literally and figuratively? Thanks! :)

Lost cause. United shouldn't give out that info, and shouldn't be acting on suspicions of others. If United called me and asked about the pen, it would tantamount to them accusing me of taking it, no matter how they phrase it. It's tough. If he really wanted the pen back, he should have confirmed the description of the pen with the FA and then either ask for it back right there or have the airport police waiting at jetway. Once he's gone, there's nothing you can do - he can deny ever having had it.

By your account, he was gone and you're pretty much outta luck.

...and if the FA took it...

Look, you have nothing to go on.

I sign million-dollar oil field services contracts with bic pens. I can send him a box, if needed...Power/prestige is not owning a "look at me" pen, it's what you can sign with any pen.

Just looked at my current pen - "Maui Toyota". Dang, the lady at the parts counter is probably p.o.'d.

You could use the subpoena power of the courts to compel the information.

PushingTin Feb 20, 2015 9:33 am

Write it off...

Go to Staples and get your dad one of those pens on a chain, or buy him a pen and put some yarn on it for him ;)

goldelite8 Feb 20, 2015 9:49 am

You don't have to convince me re: fancy pens! It was a gift that my dad received but valuable nonetheless. Looks like there's no hope.

Airbridge Feb 20, 2015 10:00 am

Buy him a eyeglasses chain for xmas and adapt it to hold expensive pens = two problems solved in one go :D
