Award booking on SQ using UA miles for 1 adult and 1 child ( 2)

Award booking on SQ using UA miles for 1 adult and 1 child ( 2+), one way is

40 K (Adult)
40 K (child age 2 )

is that the only way I can book or will calling an agent help ?

or is this normal ?

There is insufficient info to question to provide a complete answer -- the number of miles depends on your starting location and destination. My guess you are being quoted the Saver Economy award which is the least number miles.

There is no discount for child 2+.

Yes phone agents may offer more options (but I doubt fewer miles) but there is a phone fee of $25 per passenger.

(BOM to SFO one way on 28th of Jan)

40K is saver award for USA-Central Asia, this is the min level for this award.

yes, unless you are talking lap child (under 2) and it some ways since lap child is 10% of an Adult fare. it may be more expensive to go the lap child approach.
