Convert e-certificate to Miles

I received a $150 e-certificate as compensation for broken IFE on a transatlantic flight.

I would prefer to get miles instead as I can then use them for upgrades.

How do I go about doing it. I know it's possible it just seems like noone in United knows how.

They will probably only offer 5K or 7.5K miles, your probably better just keeping the e-cert.

I was told it would be 9k. I much prefer the miles, looking to upgrade my next award flight to first.

I have converted miles to e-certs several times. Give CS a call. I'm sure they would be happy to do an e-cert to miles.

Really? What if it was someone else's e-cert? I struggled to use mine before it expired and it would have been way easier to convert. What are the conversion rates?

Maybe it depends on how much time left until expiration? and they would not do it if it's about to expire?
