Did it Thursday last week, and returned from SHD yesterday.
Time in the air was only about 30 minutes in either direction. A little bumpy on the way in places, but nothing worse than I've experienced in Thomahawk two seaters.

Looks like a 15-30 minute flight:

Interestingly, the southbound flight is longer due to the arrival pattern.
Doesn't seem much different than SFO-SMF. SFO-SMF is usually < 20 minutes. SFO-SMF is usually 30+ because of the departure and arrival patterns.

Got you.
More thoughts welcomed
Is IAD larger or busier than SFO in terms of domestic flight?

Is it safe? As safe as anything on a SF3 is (of which I've had many). I haven't flown that particular route but have plenty of other short hops in the SF3 (such as IAD-SHD), never with any problems.
The flight can be a little bumpy due to the terrain and the fact it doesn't typically have the time to get to smoother altitudes and back down, but that's about it.

As for safe, compared to what? Driving? A train? A bus? Much safer. Flying a regional jet or mainliner, not as safe. http://philip.greenspun.com/flying/safety

I make the run at least 10 times a year with out any issures. Is it safe? Are you kidding? It's as safe as any flight in the sky. I began flying CHO to SFO via IAD because this has been the best fares the past year (compared to IAD or RIC). Which other flight can I get 500 EQM and only fly 77 miles.

Wow I'm actually thinking of going to UVA in Charlottesville from SFO.
