Advice on Copa -- GPU v CPU?
So I'm flying round-trip IAH-SCL later this month using the dreaded Copa option through PTY (IAH-PTY-SCL on April 24, SCL-PTY-IAH April 27). Flight booked through United as an M, IAH-PTY-IAH legs instant upgraded. Debating whether to use GPUs on the PTY-SCL-PTY legs (I'm out of RPUs). Yes I know using GPUs on 737 flights may seem like a waste to some but I don't currently have a strong need for the GPUs otherwise and by the time I might, I'll have 6 more. And the flights are just long enough (6+ hours each way) to probably justify it. The real question though is whether to try to hold out for CPUs. Anyone have experience with CPUs on PTY-SCL-PTY? Thanks!

Why use either. I and I know many others that have never missed an upgrade on copa. I see ur gs so u should get an upgrade. Did u look and see fare bucket and how many seats are left in first? I don't know what so dreaded about copa. I find them much better than the new united and try to fly them over ua in every market I can.

None of the above...
If you are on an M fare then you can get insta-upgrades on the Copa flights, too.

All Premier members are eligible for instant upgrades on Copa flights, when traveling on Y, B, M or H tickets.

Go to your reservation on United.com, then look at the Copa flight and click on fare class. It will open a box and list the availability of all the fare classes. You can also do a search to SCL say from IAH for the date your flying and it will bring up the flights and click on fare class again and it will list all the availability of fare classes.

Incidentally, the United website is currently wrong. It says:
All Premier members are eligible for instant upgrades on Copa flights, when traveling on Y, B, M or H tickets.
But Copa confirms that they only offer instant upgrades for Y, B, & M. Not H. FYI,

I have taken these flights several times. As a 1k always been successful with CPU. If you really want to be sure... I'd be happy to sponsor you with an rpu (so you can save that gpu for one of the intl upgrades I need
)
I think you will be fine as gs.

there's another thread from the past summer that reports several CM birds with barcalounger type seats in F now and are still treated like regular CM F that are accessible by CPU..
