To update:
Used the mercure showers. All I needed was the BP. No issues at all.
It's located in the non-schengen F area. I arrived in DC so some <10min walk.
Is it better than the Sheraton? I don't know but I didn't need to exit the airport.
Plus we now know that UA J has access to the airside mercure showers.

This ancient thread concerned a practice closed down in 2016, BusinessFirst Arrivals in Europe (discontinued)
For general AMS lounge discussion -- Amsterdam lounge options for the UA traveler
But none are arrival lounges, need onward travel for access.
So given the discontinuance of the program sometime back and a more up-to-date lounge thread, will close this older thread.
