Maybe I missed something and this is old news but I just went into the mileage calculator in the new site to check my miles to MKE from SNA via ORD... it is giving me 250 miles for the segment from ORD to MKE, each way.... did this happen recently? I booked this flight fully expecting 500 miles for each segment...
I see it still doesn't.
Mileage minimum for UA flights for elites are 500.

Why would they do this? They can't be serious...

It's got to be a glitch. Right?
I sure hope miles don't post under it.

airport mileage reductions on UA routes with the new website
OK, this isn't meant to be petty, but what the heck. SFO-ORD is one of the most storied routes in the legacy of United Airlines. It had always accrued 1846 miles per leg. I do this route at least twice a month. So now, after all my upcoming UA trips are re-tagged with new record locators, etc., the website says "you will accrue 1839 miles per segment" instead of the traditional 1846. To be sure, AA's AAdvantage program had always posted 1846 for this.
Just another example of how things can change. How do they recalculate this stuff, and why? Did the runways truly change? At 20 trips per year, x 14 miles per trip, that's 280 miles. Others may travel more on this route. I checked another trip from SFO-BOS coming up, a one-way route that has traditionally been 2704 per leg. Now it is listed as 2694---which is 8 miles less per segment.
I looked at an upcoming SFO-EWR, traditionally 2565---it is now 2556. I checked on an upcoming SFO-LIH. It went from 2447 to 2440. And yadda.
Ok, the reductions are about .4 or .5% per route, but, as noted above, it adds up in a huge frequent prior program with millions of flights.
My take: This is no accident. It is unnecessary and I doubt is simple incompetence.
I would hope that UA would remedy this.

SFO-FRA is down 20 miles - that's a pretty big change.

My IAD-MCI UX flight this evening had 922 listed on the BP, although the route is 927 miles.

gcmap.com gives the higher mileage amounts. gcmap.com uses FAA data to get the lat/long of the airport and then uses one of Vincenty's formulae to calculate the distance. Vincenty's formulae are extremely accurate (to less than an inch).
So UA could be using a different lat/long than the FAA for the airports, but that seems unlikely. More likely is UA is using a less accurate formula to calculate the distance, perhaps one that models the earth as a sphere when in reality it is not.

it is called different databases -- for the UA folks, we are now using the CO database. UA numbers had been diferent than Co and other airlines.

NRT - IAD 6,753 --> 6,734
NRT - EWR 6,732 --> 6,712
NRT - ORD 6,274 --> 6,256
NRT - TPE 1,356 --> 1,353
Approximately 0.3% reduction. Some smart guy is playing game on us.
All segments in my itineraries went down, with a single exception:
ORD - MCO remains at 1,005.
NRT - EWR 6,732 --> 6,712
NRT - ORD 6,274 --> 6,256
NRT - TPE 1,356 --> 1,353

IAH - PHL 1324 >> 1321
PHL - EWR 81 >> 71
LAS - IAH reduced by 2 miles from what I can remember
And someone already mentioned the reduction for SFO-IAH.

No this is methodically a 0.3% or so reduction. Its a bug. I received same miles for CO flights as I did UA flights.
