I think this is still a fairly common problem. I'm having the same problem booking an itinerary where UA.com will not pull up available flights from partners in fare classes that I know are available. It will only let me book the partner flight I want in Y booking code even when T is available if I book it as a one-way.
And on the return, there were two options SEA-BOS leaving within minutes of each other, one via DEN and the other via ORD. The DEN flight showed up for miles, but not for $$ (the other two tix were revenue). AND, when changing the other tix (two PNRs) one got charged the $150 change fee, which I expected, and the other did not. I'm not complaining but it's all pretty strange. I forget the orginal fare classes, but the one that got charged the fee had cost significantly more, purchased within an hour of the first, when I was stressed and the web site was not behaving consistently during that booking. It is so random. |

I've seen so much of this, even on flights that are all UA metal, it drives me nuts. I know I can call in but this takes longer and sometimes get dinged with the $25 fee and it's not worth the time to argue about it. The other day had to cancel an itin due to surgery and was replacing tix with a domestic trip at the end of the summer. When I tried to change the mileage award for my son, on the return flight only ONE flight, very early AM, showed up as available for any reward (I was not trying to use saver, I never find those for the flights I want). If I booked a new award ticket, all the flights had award seats, as they should have. It was easier to just suck up the redeposit fee.

The CPU bugs seem to be getting squashed -- my flight on weds cleared at exactly 96 hours (L fare) and all the segments on tonight's MR that I booked on saturday cleared at exactly 48 hours (G fare).

So my upgrade on Friday's JFK-SFO cleared and I was notified by e-mail. I pulled up my reservation to select a seat and see that warning that says:
"! A modification has been made to your itinerary. Please contact United Reservations to have your ticket reissued." I don't really have to call them, do I? Isn't that just a bug that persists in the system. I received that message in early March and ignored it and the flight worked fine. I purchased the ticket last week online at united.com. |

Yes, but is it a risk worth taking? The ticket may need to be sync'd. If it does, then check-in is impossible, even at a kiosk. Why not take the few minutes to get it right beforehand and then have a more effortless trip when it's time fly.

To me this is a flaw in the system that came with the merger. The other flaw hit me a few weeks ago when I was waitlisted on a ps upgrade for my flight yesterday. All of a sudden I saw R inventory on the flight but I remained on the waitlist. So I called in and asked them to clear me. It took awhile and two people to accomplish it but it happened. So what used to be automatic is now labor intensive. United staff has more work and customers have to babysit their reservations. Not a way to make money or please customers. |

Don't worry--the plan is to scare off high-maintenance pax who need things like waitlisted upgrades taken care of.

Today I was deplaned for a MX. I walked up to the gate agent and was told they couldn't rebook me because of the new system. I was sent to the next flight that was leaving and told they should be able to put me on the plane. On the walk to the next gate I had the 1k desk book me and when I arrived at the next gate I said "I was moved to this flight, can you please print my boarding pass" where it was all booked and ready to go. I hate this "the system won't let me...." answer I keep getting.
