Rumor: DEN to become base for 737 and IAH base for A319/320

I just flew into DEN and sat next to a deadheading pilot... he said that the Airbus fleet is being moved out of DEN and the 737s are being moved in.. a "hub for 737's" Continental pilots are very happy according to this senior pilot who said they were just told this news.. What do you think? Personally, I am happy

I heard something about the elevation of DEN and the 737s working out better. Not sure of the details though.

From an entertainment standpoint, it makes sense, as F9 is in DEN, and like CO's 737s, F9 also has pay TVs.

Airbus has a roomier cabin, wider seats.

I have heard this rumour as well. I was told that the Airbus fleet can carry more cargo and has IFE that is more appropriate (free and actually works for the whole flight) for the IAH-Latin America runs. ORD will be seeing many more 737's as well under this plan.

Doesn't CO have a maintenance base at DEN? Perhaps it's being tooled (or already is) as the 737 maintenance base. Having a ton of 737 flights out of DEN would allow them rotate them though the base fairly easily.

Also, my understanding is that equipment isn't necessarily assigned to a base like crew are. Perhaps the 737 pilot base will be DEN and they will assign mostly 737 equipment to DEN routes.

A few of us spoke with one of the station managers at DEN before the Capt Denny do a couple of weeks ago. He mentioned that the airbii were headed to IAH and the 737s were coming up here, because the 737s are more efficient and thus a better fit for DEN and its altitude. So that seems to be all there is to it.

Yeah, the pilot told me that they will move the majority of the Airbuses to IAH

I won't mind seeing the A319's depart, just because of the poor UG chances.

Seems like 737's have a more favorable UG chances than 320's, no?

And honestly, a 737 hub is about the best we could hope for.... I was bracing for the CR7 hub!

Yup. Got an upgrade on a 737 flight yesterday. Fully 15 of the 20 available seats were upgrades. Try that on an 8 first class seat 319. I wouldn't miss the 319's at all.

Not all 737s have 20 F seats
737-500 8 F seats
737-700 12
737-800 16
737-900 20

Guess I'm not seasoned enough to have paid attention to the seat width, but I do think that the Airbus is annoyingly loud in the cabin (some kind of loud hum) - and as a DEN based lowly Gold soon I'll take all the help I can get on upgrades

Much better than the ER4 hub at ORD!

It's not surprising considering that more and more 737s have been creeping into the schedule. More of them will start flying DEN-hub routes starting with the April schedule (2x SFO IIRC).

Of course, I will continue to book all my flights on UA metal until the CO fleet is fully converted to E+.

Funny considering pre-merger UA got rid of the 737's.
