for both legs, the 100 hour window produced the following:
Flight 1 (SEA-ORD, 757) - pre-100 hour: F8/NF3. post-100 hour: F8/NF0
Flight 2 (ORD-IAD, 757) - pre-100 hour: F9/NF8. Post-100 hour F9/NF0

It appears that no one cleared at the 100 hour window even with NF>0. There is at least 1 1k on board (me). I changed from pending to wait-listed.

Oddly, my seats unassigned sometime this week. On catching this, I realized that there was no longer any E+ outbound. This didn't change at the 100 hour window, further evidence that no one cleared at the 100 hour window (the f9 could otherwise theoretically have gone from 15 to 10 and still show F9)

All that wind up for the following pitch - this is clearly the new norm; not clearing UDUs at the 100 hour window. I can still purchase an upgrade....

Is this the experience everyone else is having as well?? One concludes that this is about preserving F inventory to sell.

It has been a mixed just like any other years. I had transcon widebody lie flat upgraded between 72-100 hours; had 737 with RN4 through out the UDU window yet had to wait until getting to the gate, etc.

No because the total available F (8) didn't change in the first flight. You're right - that could explain the 2nd, though usually people who clear upgrades have the good sense to have good E+ seats prior to clearing...unlike me this trip.

UDU is Still Working

LGA-ORD waitlisted at 100 hours.
ORD-PDX cleared at 100 hours.

I think UDU is working fine. sUA has pulled inventory before the windows.

Is sCO no longer manually upgraded if R/RN>0 prior to the sweep if one calls?

Upgrade availability seems to be quite good from my perspective.

I've cleared 10 upgrades out of 12 segments thus far in 2012.

UDU: 9/10
Cleared all 8 LAX-SFO and SFO-LAX segments.
Cleared LAX-IAD (767 widebody)
Failed IAD-BOS (#4 on list, 2 seats available -> #2 on list, 0 seats available)

CR1: 1/2
The one that failed was a flight that followed a cancelled flight. It became an overloaded flight. (#2 on list with 1 open seat -> #1 on list with 0 open seats) :)

Darn you, Mr GS-guy. :)

SJUAMMF Feb 26, 2012 6:21 pm

On a recent trip:
SFO-IAD no upgrade
IAD-SYR no F, CO metal
SYR-LGA no F, US metal
LGA-ORD no upgrade
ORD-MCO called to F after seated in E, CO metal
MIA-IAD no upgrade
IAD-SFO no upgrade

I think it's gotten worst.

Upgrade success so far in 2012

11 segments. 7 of them on CRJ200 so no upgrade available as no F. 4 of them SFO-DEN or DEN-SFO. 3 on 757 and 1 on 767. 767 got upgraded. 757 1 of 3 upgraded. So as a 1P in 2012 with 4 chances for upgrade on hub to hub flights got 2 upgrades. Better than I was expecting. Just need to get off the Barbie Jets :D

davewang202 Feb 26, 2012 6:41 pm

I look for 752's because they have 24 FC seats. Harder for UA to clear out all that inventory to paying FC customers or fill them with GS-type folks. :)

I even found a flight where UA flew a 767 3-class domestically (it was going to PVG later in the day). I got up a bit earlier than I would've otherwise to take that flight. UDU into international business seats. :)

Really looking forward to 3/3 so all of us 1Ks will be separated out from the Platinums.

My 1P SO is 7/13 on the year, flying only G fares, fwiw.

I agree -- I've got a bunch of upgradable flights coming up post 3/3, including several transcons, widebodies, and DEN-big city (e.g. SFO, LAX, EWR, ORD, etc.) flights. We'll see what happens.

The moderators moved this to a distantly related thread about the difficulty of upgrades. But the point of the post was that the rules seem to have changed; you no longer clear at your window **even if there is NC or NF available**. This is an important change in the playing field. In several of my flights this year, NF goes from positive to 0 soon prior to the window opening, then no one clears. Certainly UA's prerogative, but not how the UDU system is advertised to us.

My return is 3 march, so with luck the pool of top tier elites will have diminished. Almost got me - I finished with 101,700 last year.

I've upgraded 3 /4 on SFO-FRA in last 4 months, and both ways LAX-SYD. Guess my luck is in.

well, post 3 March you will not see the inventory for Complimentary upgrades, so this will be a moot point. The R/RN inventory does not apply to CPU, only to the use of Miles/SWUs/RPUs.
Welcome to the new UA.

IT will be interesting to see after March 3rd how the upgrades go.

Not entirely correct - CPU does come out of R/RN. Unlike using an instrument/miles, however, having positive R space during the EUA windows doesn't guarantee EUA will run. And of course it's not a dynamic process either.

Agreed it does suck though - welcome to the new UA!
