edited by me, dont know why I thought the OP was talking about F tkts when they said J tkts

your best chance would be JFK over EWR and with making a stop and in Biz. If LX has any Biz open it will probably be on its BOS flight or YYZ flight

Theres this EWR-BOS 6:00pm-7:30pm & BOS-ZRH 9:50pm-11:05am since you didnt grab them I assume the BOS-ZRH flight gets in on 12/31 after the ZRH-BOM has left or is about to = a misconnect. If thats the case you will have to ride on LH and connect to ZRH

For a really Great flight do PHL-FRA-ZRH not only do you get into ZRH at 9am, but youd be in the best Biz seat, USs A-330s knocks everyone else to shame even LX,imo and its available for 12/30

@TonyBurr
It was $650 in total taxes for 2. I am not concerned at all about spending the $50 if it nets be $600 in refunds!

@craz
Currently have business class seats LHR-ZRH-BOM (departing LHR at 6am).

The only reason we are doing this is we currently live in London, but work is moving us back to the USA a bit sooner than we expected.

Being on one PNR traveling through london for less than 24 hours would also get me a significant refund of the $600 in taxes.
Yes if EWR-LHR is available then the agent should be able to add it to make EWR-LHR-ZRH-BOM.

Try also:

EWR-FRA/MUC-BOM
JFK-FRA/MUC-BOM
JFK-CAI-BOM
EWR-IST-BOM
JFK-IST-BOM

I see on 12/30 JFK-CAI-IST-BOM (only CAI-IST is in Economy) or JFK-FRA-IST-BOM (7 hour layover in IST or FRA).

the best is none of these but PHL-FRA-ZRH gets in @ 9am into ZRH. USs Envoy is on its A-330 and is 1 of the best J seats over the pond on anyone

2 options on UA.com

EWR-IAD-LHR (all UA medal)
EWR-FRA-LHR (all Lufthansa)

These price at 50k each. If i added it to my current itinerary would it price out at the EWR-BOM price of 60k each (therefore only requiring an extra 20k in miles?)

Yes. With a good agent, since they'll have to hold the last segment (not on UA metal) and reticket.

Ok all. I am thinking doing NYC-FRA-ZRH. Looking to have a 2 hour layover in FRA to hopefully shower. Though it looks like biz class LH passengers do get Swiss Arrive Lounge Showers
First Class SWISS
& Lufthansa SWISS First, Senator & Business Lounge, SWISS Lounge D Senator & Business, Arrival Lounge
First Class Star Alliance SWISS Senator & Business Lounge, SWISS Lounge D Senator & Business
Business Class SWISS & Lufthansa SWISS Business Lounge, Lounge D Business, Arrival Lounge*

* Lufthansa Business Class passengers only have access to the SWISS Arrival Lounge after long haul flights via Düsseldorf, Munich or Frankfurt.
So i am thinking i will add this to my itinerary

Depart:
6:10 p.m.
Sat., Dec. 28, 2013
New York/Newark, NJ (EWR - Liberty)
Arrive:
7:45 a.m. +1 Day
Sun., Dec. 29, 2013
Frankfurt, Germany (FRA)
Flight Time:
7 hr 35 mn
Flight: LH403
Operated by Lufthansa.
Aircraft: Boeing 747-400

Change Planes. Connect time in Frankfurt, Germany (FRA) is 1 hour 45 minutes.

Depart:
9:30 a.m.
Sun., Dec. 29, 2013
Frankfurt, Germany (FRA)
Arrive:
10:25 a.m.
Sun., Dec. 29, 2013
Zurich, Switzerland (ZRH)
Flight Time:
55 mn

Flight: LH1186
Operated by Lufthansa.
Aircraft: Boeing 737-500

They have saver level awards available. My ZRH-BOM flight would then leave on the 30th @ 9:45am (so only 23 hours in ZRH). Since they don't release First class ticket i would keep an eye out and pay the fee again and the extra miles to go First. Worth it?

How do you search these? UA.com just returns "Please Call Us" when I do a multi destination search.

A-B then B-C. Don't bother with B-C if A-B doesn't work.

had it been a LH 748 and not 744, I could understand Why not go:

EWR-BOS 6p-7:30p (OK its Y)

and connect to LX BOS-ZRH 9:50pm-11:05am (Biz)

Id grab that LX flight over the LH anyday LX is bed seats while LH is angled

FIRST WORLD PROBLEM

I didn't realize LH would be angled. We did that on AA from EWR-LHR and it was the worst sleep on a plan.

OP I apologize I just noticed you are talking about 12/28, I kept thinking of 12/30 from your 1st post. That EWR-BOS-ZRH isnt avaialble on 12/28

If can swing getting to PHL then Id go with PHL-FRA(US A-330)- ZRH.

Otherwise Id go via STR with UA on the PMCO 752 Bed seat, great AVOD both which LH is missing, food will be better on LH. Lounge will be better in FRA LHs seat will be more padded but not a bed

No worries. The dates are confusing to me too. Is the US Air product really worth it. PHL is about a 90 minute drive so it is a bit out of the way, but i guess it would take nearly as long to get to JFK. (EWR is 30 minutes)

The UA route via STR is tempting. I have flow the 757 BizFirst product before and was looking to experience something different, but i would rather have something i know i can sleep in than a miserable flight.
