The present UA site has limited online partner options while the CO site has more, there is likely the difference you are seeing. Calling should offer more options for UA.

The general speculation is the future site will be more similar to the present CO site. As for online partner available, the direction for both UA & CO has been to offer more partners, suspect that will continue in the future.

In general while names maybe changing, the IT systems are also changing -- but names and IT systems are not linked. Think of it as more OP name is being retired but many of its features (and features from UA) will be maintained in the new program. We just don't yet know all those details.

.bomb has been steadfast at 25K for coach and 50K for FC including very same flight combinations.

UA.com online searches are incomplete, especially for partners. Calling usually shows additionally opportunities. A definitive shortfall on ua.com but not *Net blocking

Great thanks that explains things. I tried Munich instead of Florence and got an option on UA.com via Lufthansa (this is where CO went) and Lufthansa has a lot of flights from Munich into Florence so it looks like the CO site is picking up a better bunch of these then UA.

Checked bag on award ticket

Hello,
A simple question. I just booked an award ticket with my Mileage Plus miles. I'm a Chase Mileage Plus card holder. Am I able to get a free checked bag on the free ticket? If so, how do I do that? Do I just show them the card when I get to the airport? Thanks for your help.

Which specific card do you have? Most of the Chase MP Visa cards do not offer free bags, the newer Explorer Card does and the Chase OP cards do.

We have a Continental OnePass card. When I click on "Reward Details" on My Account on the Chase website I see:

"As a Continental Airlines primary credit cardmember, you get your first checked –bag fees automatically waived! For details, please visit continental.com > Products and Services > Continental Airlines Credit Cards."

and

"Rewards Program Details

First Checked Bag FREE
2 complimentary Club passes each year
Priority Boarding privileges
Earn one mile for each dollar spent on all purchases
Earn double miles for tickets purchased through Continental and United
Earn 10,000 bonus miles for $25,000 in spend each year
Your miles don’t expire and there is no limit to how many you can earn
Redeem for flights on all 28 Star Alliance Network Airlines
Use miles for car rentals and hotel stays
Travel & Purchase Protection
OnePass Plus Concierge Service
24/7 Customer Service specialists"

My question is just whether we show them the card when checking the bags in? I assume that's what happens but this is the first time I'll be flying with bags in a long time.

Opinion please

Owner of the company I work for is due for Presidents Club renewal mid-month. His combined mileage for UA/CO is above 2 million (I realize that CO 'counts' miles differently).

Currently, the UA 2 Million benefit is free Red Carpet Club. I just don't know what to recommend to him in regards to renewing the President's Club. I realize that probably the chance of him getting the free Red Carpet Club as a benefit starting next year will be minimal, yet hate to spend the money to renew his Presidents Club if by chance he does get the RCC.

Appreciate your thoughts!

SharonLPK, as you know, there's been no announcement about how UA and CO will offer benefits and count miles in a unified "million-miler" program. Here's the current speculation thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...-merge-19.html

Formal announcement by United is expected sometime between late this month and early next quarter.

If your principal will soon have a combined 2MM actual flight miles (so-called BIS) from both programs, I'd speculate that there might be a chance; but if the total will not meet the 2-million BIS mark by year's end, I'd speculate that less or no chance -- but it can only be speculation until UA announces the new program.

I had to ask a UA rep about this. So long as the ticket under which the bag is checked was purchased with the Chase card, the benefit will attach and the card can just be shown to an airport counter agent at the baggage check-in point to claim the benefit.

[Edited to add: when talking to the agent, I forgot that you had booked an award ticket, but assume that if you had charged the security fee and/or any taxes on that ticket to the Chase card that that would also get the free checked bag.]

Status match with UA or with CO?

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum. I just changed jobs and will be status matching to UA/CO from a different mileage program (currently 50,000 EQM status as Alaska MVP Gold).

My most frequent routing will be on CO metal through IAH into GSO. Should I status match with CO, with UA, does it even matter, etc.?

Thanks!

Neither CO or UA does a status match but they do status challenges. Believe they are pretty much the same (17.5K BIS miles or 22 segments in 90 days) and travel on either UA/CO metal counts for either.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/conti...ntinental.html

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...ed-2010-a.html

Make sure this is offering status (upon assuming successful completion of challenge) until 1/2013

If your mostly common carrier with be CO, it seems the most sense to challenge with them at this point since in will be one program in 2012.

At what point will all connections on Continental be transferrable to United? I've tried to remain loyal to United by booking flights on Continental (using my United FF#) to Monroe, LA only to find that one leg of the journey won't garner any miles or segments. Apparently, from what I was told, Colgin Air only has a contract with Continental and not United. I was told at Christmas it would be resolved in a "month or so" but it's now 9 months later and I still don't receive credit, after 3 more flights. What can I do?

What route were you told would not earn miles, as it was operated by Colgan?

Credit your flights to CO and the credits will be combined with your UA account credits (now if you linked accounts, end of the year if you don't link).

Not sure what "remain loyal" means in this case, since everything PMUA & PMCO will become UA in 2012.

Stuck in between

Booked a Z class ticket via CO as part of a multi-leg domestic and Int'l flight. One segment is on 3-cabin UA metal between HNL and NRT. I would like to upgrade to first class (using *A miles, or a CO SWU), but I'm told by CO that their computers think I already am in first class. Also, apparently, one cannot use a CO SWU to upgrade from business to first on UA flights.

So, the next shot was to request a milage-based upgrade. No-can-do according to United's rep because it's a CO ticket. Co says that I need to purchase a higher fare class than Z to upgrade using miles on UA and the new price is almost identical to the first class fare, so no reason to use the miles.

Am I missing something here???? Can't one simply request a mileage based upgrade and hope for the best at the airport, or something...? I feel as though UA and CO are each pointing at each other on this one. Or, am I just being blonde...?

Since the operator of the segment in question is UA, UA rules operate.
On UA, miles upgrades (including *A mileage upgrades) can not be done on codeshare sold tickets.
ON UA, Z fares international (Region 2) can not be upgraded with SWUs (but can with miles -- if it wasn't a codeshare).

So beleive you are stuck in business unless they offer an UFC (Upgrade for Cash) at check-in or the gate.

Note the CO/UA codeshare thing may seem silly but that is where we are stuck at the moment -- hopefully this will all go away in 3 or 4 months.
