To/From LHR

I know there have been many threads on this, but I am looking for those with multiple UA LHR experiences since the "new" rules have been in place. Can you provide some details about travel TO LHR from the US and FROM LHR to the US? Specifically as relates to hand luggage, permitted liquids (in both directions), FastTrack out of LHR, and check in times both to and from LHR.

Have a look at baa.co.uk - it has a lot of details on the current rules.

The new rules are planned to be Europe wide.

Not true any more. The new rules allow you to carry on liquids purchased AFTER security and safety matches (but not lighters).

The hand carry-on size dimensions* are as follows:

* 56 centimetres long (approximately 22 inches)
* 45 centimetres high (approximately 17.5 inches)
* 25 centimetres deep (approximately 9.85 inches).

* This is the maximum bag size allowed through security. Smaller bag sizes may apply depending on which airline you travel with.

Since this doesn't specifically related to United or Mileage Plus, I'm going to move it to the London forum.

On Saturday Oct 14 it took me 45 minutes from the time my LH plane touched down to walk quickly to the Flight Connection Center, go through the short security lines, check in at the UA desk and get rebooked since I missed my connection, take the bus to Terminal 3 and walk to the Red Carpet Club. I went through security a second time, I suppose at the entrance to Terminal 3, and there was no line at all. At that one, they opened my bag and briefly peeked inside.

reports on the BA forum suggest wait times may be improving, and are no longer generally the 1-2 hours we were suffering in August and September... but of course, YMMV

DCBob is correct as well - pax for US bound flights may now buy liquids after security to take on-board the plane.

UA LHR>ORD

I just came through London on United and all in all - pretty much the same experience as I always have. The line for security - Fast Track and economy - is ridiculously long at Terminal 3. Give yourself an hour - at least! The security felt the same - less intense than the U.S. - though I didn't take off my shoes or belt, I got frisked when the metal detector went off. I also didn't see anyone with more than one piece of luggage. Certainly no heavy handed stuff about keeping everything in one piece. When I got to Gate 16 - I went through the Star Gold/Business/First/UGS entrance which is less restrictive then the other main entrance. They don't do secondary searches for P1's/Star Gold/Business, etc. And I got upgraded from E+ - always a nice surprise and good thing.

I will be coming thru lhr from MUC on a LH flt with a 75min connection in Dec, doesn't sound too promising to make it. Unless I can dig up a fast pass somewhere... Will have to make sure to have backup plan for later connections if we don't make it. When you came in on the LH flt, what T did you arrive in?? Sounds like T 2 ?? I know that I need to be going out of T3 on my UA flt, but have never come into lhr from MUC.. Will be with several other FT'ers doing a MR, so they will be in the same boat as they say.... any help is appreciated.

row 1A is right, we have a 75 minutes ( and that assumes that the LH flight from MUC is on time) connecton to LHR.

If we miss our flight are we SOL?

75 minutes should be just barely OK if your MUC flight is on time, and if you can walk fast.
It's a long walk from the LH t2 gate to the FCC, and also a long walk from the T3 bus entrance to the UA gates.
