Heavy Police presence at Paddington and landslide at T5 but all running smoothly (apart from the usual painful once a year passengers who appear at holiday times 😉 )

They said the protesters had been moved from the road onto the footway, but were still commiting an offence as it was still airport land. Why didn't they put them in a police van and drop them off a long way from the airport?

I agree with the protesters. Climate change represents the biggest threat to the environment and we are being very complacent in actually engaging with the problem and doing something about it. The Extinction Rebellion movement is trying to focus minds both in government and across the country on the problem and achieving their aims. This week so far they have had a huge amount of publicity, way more than any other issue associated with climate change before.
The police and judiciary system are being brutal in dealing with the protesters; remand, which is prison by any other name, for peaceful protesters in the light railway is draconian.
I wish them every success.

I have no problem with peaceful protests, but glueing yourself to a train is NOT a peaceful protest. And given the same day threat made to LHR for today I don't think there was any other option but to put them on remand, otherwise the same people would then be there causing more criminal damage.

@ Greenpen ... so you’re not immediately impacted by blocked roads, railways or airports, I assume?
I have aympathy for their cause, but I have no sympathy for the methods they have chosen to highlight it.

Disrupt government or be vocal and loud - sure, but disrupting other innocent people that may need to go about their day; work, birthdays, funerals etc is not a peaceful protest and is unacceptable. Just show no respect for others.

I can't help but feel this is more of a party not a protest.

Seems like the anarchists have gone to wrong country, it's in China they should be blocking roads etc.

Under the proposal, the country could add a large coal power plant every 2 weeks for the next 12 years

They would have had a lot of support if they were protesting against BArbs M&S Premium Buy On Board. I would be out there protesting with my fellow Double Barrelled Warriors.
But as they're not... I can only suggest BArb brims her potable tanks with napalm and bomb them. Her Country of the Month chicken dishes wouldn't work, just too tepid. It's got to be napalm. And toss her lounge cakes out of the rear door causing blunt force trauma. That would show them the dangers of Aviation.
