London restaurant recommendations

This is two separate questions.

I have three upcoming business trips to London and I'm trying to make my restaurant reservations. I'm trying to find one restaurant that has outstanding seafood - particularly scallops, which are a favorite. Roka's are excellent but I want to go somewhere else this time. What is the consensus on Bentley's? I know it's a step down, but I walk past it virtually every time I'm in London and thought I'd give it a try one of these days. I definitely don't like Loch Fyne - I went several times to the one in Cambridge when I lived there and thought it sucked.

Second question: I'm considering going to Goodman for a change because I've been to Hawksmoor so many times. Is there any difference in the city and Mayfair locations?

Bentleys is quite good but a very different style to Roka (Roka is Japanese). Bentleys specialises in oysters in the bar downstairs, and the restaurant upstairs has a good selection of fish. Quite formal.

You could also try Sheekeys which is great for fish. I usually have a dover sole. I prefer it to Bentleys. Book in advance, it's popular.

And Scotts in Mayfair has a good ambience and food:

Restaurant 101 in the Sheraton wins a lot of awards for seafood. I had a good but expensive meal there. A bit corporate though.

These are all in the West End, and quite high end. Very different to Loch Fyne which is the other end of the scale IMO! I wouldn't go there.

Wilton's. Perhaps? My favorite.

Scott's as well, but the food is basically identical to sheekey (sister restaurant) which is more intimate and compact then Scott's.

For Japanese try nobu or zuma (slightly more formal sister restaurant of roka)

Goodman Maddox street is excellent, but book well in advance. Haven't been to the city branch.

Will definitely hit Scott's one of these days; the menu looks great. Went to Bentley's over the weekend and wasn't impressed (also went to Le Gavroche and was a little bit disappointed also, but that's a different story altogether). Next weekend we'll be at Zuma and Goodman. I agree about Nobu - very good.

Next to Bentley's was a place called Fish Market that looked absolutely hopping from the outside looking in. Might give them a try some time. Bentley's was virtually empty when I went on Friday.

Have a look at The Lobster Pot in Kennington -http://www.lobsterpotrestaurant.co.uk/index.php - off the beaten track but only a short walk from Kennington Tube Station. Surroundings etc are nothing special but the food is excellent.

For steak in London, you might want to check out this blog http://www.thecowclubcouncil.com/

Certainly some places I want to check out.

You're welcome - I only found out about it by absolute accident but the writing is superb.

It's Mash that I'm now looking for an excuse to try!

Although I have yet to eat there I hear very good reviews from friends who have been to The Delaunay - from the same people behind The Wolseley.

www.thedelaunay.com

Anyone ?

I went to Cut, their fillet is tiny, I asked if they had a larger one, or could "Cut" me one, I was told no, they're all pre-sliced, and their suggestion was to order 2... food was ok, nothing amazing IMO, the restaurant itself is basically the lobby of a building. Won't be going back.

I've heard MASH is excellent http://www.mashsteak.dk/restaurants/london/

edit, heard Delaunay is very good also

I'm afraid the credibility of that website isn't very high for me when you see for 'overall score' Cut is first and 34 is second. The former being vastly over priced and the latter being vastly over rated.

The bill at CUT will also not be £50 - £60 per person, more like £80 to £100, if you have a bottle of wine and an aperitif.
