Although according to the Sun, Cameron and Osbourne favour a four runway Stansted. Cant find the link anymore. :(
When I first heard of a four runway Stansted, I assumed that would include closing of Heathrow. I had always assumed that a new hub airport would include the closing of at least two of the other airports in London - so you are consolidating runways, rather than adding to them. It would seem to me more sensible, if building a new hub, to close Heathrow, close either Gatwick, Luton or Stansted (or maybe two of them - all depends on where the new hub airport is located), and leave the new hub, City airport and one or two one-runway airports for LCCs, Charters and other point-to-point holiday traffic. |

If STN is the new hub, then Ryainair will need to relocate somewhere. |

The prime minister says London Mayor Boris Johnson is wrong to dismiss a third runway at Heathrow and he will not be given a veto on the issue. |

From what perspective - An ATC issue, a birdstrike issue etc.?
I'll say it again, let's flatten Slough and build a few extra LHR runways in that space. ;) :D |

A hub is about connections. If you think the schlep from T3 to T5 is bad, imagine what it would be like from STN to LHR.

Surely if you had two big hubs you would have BA and Oneworld at one and Star Alliance at the other (I seem to recall a third alliance too, maybe they could use Luton). Kind of like EWR/JFK or, uh, nowhere else actually.

Over a third (34%) of tourism chiefs believe expanding Heathrow is the best way of solving the UK's airport capacity problems, according to a poll. |
