AMEX to TWA to AA?
I ahve a ton of AMEX miles. Is there a good reason to convert them to TWA for future integration into AA vs. leaving them in the AMEX bank?

There is no guarantee as to how AA is going to handle TWA miles, the safe bet would be to leave them be!

8. What will happen to my frequent flier miles when TWA is integrated into American?
Very soon, TWA passengers who are AAdvantage members can begin accruing AAdvantage miles on TWA flights.
It is American's intention to as quickly as possible obtain court and regulatory approval to do two things:
Enable TWA customers to begin accruing AAdvantage miles on TWA flights;
Subsequently, to announce procedures to protect the mileage balances of Aviators members.

You can transfer 100,000 AMEX points into TWA and qualify for their Platinum elite level (100,000 miles from ANY source.) American then should recognize your Platinum status on AA. The date of the bankruptcy might have some effect on any late mileage manuvering, but it could be worth a shot if you have more than enough points in your AMEX account.

wow...I do have almost a million AMEX miles...am already platinum on for this year, but I guess that would guarantee me platinum for 2002?
AA, but did I hear that you can get lifetime platinum on TWA?
I would think that miles on TWA will get merged in and honored with AA.
I think it takes 200,000 AMEX points to get 100,000 miles?

Paul,
TWA says you cannot earn Platinum Aviator status by transferring in miles. Do you have any direct experience here?

No, sorry about that. I know I had seen something about it before, and it was at the TWA thread "All of the miles you earn now count a elite." It looks like you can't transfer Amex miles in and get Plat.

I believe the idea was earned miles, such as through rentals, hotels, Cr. Cards, etc. would count toward status. But transfers, don't think so.
But for those looking to add to their AA miles, there are some great cheap flights to earn big miles on TW that, it apprears, will transfer to AA (and hopefully count toward AA status). Maybe a risk, as nothing in bankruptacies is certain.
