The release says the Lisbon and Milan stations are closing, but STL-FRA will open in the spring.

Yes, of course Lisbon and Milan got sacrificed during these service increases... Unfortunately TWA wasn't profiting from these routes http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Oh well, I may reconsider my loyalty to an airline that continues to cut services to places that I need to get to. I was pretty miffed when Rome went, but now, losing Milan means that trips to Rome require yet another security check, another airplane trip, another set of hoops....

I'm thinking Continental or US Air for next years loyalty. Anyone have any ideas? I am an Elite1 with three European trips a year and at least 5 transcontinentals a year. It doesn't see like much, but I seem to accrue miles fairly fast. I also fly up and down the west coast at least one rt a month on Alaska.

Now, if they only activated a Sea-JFK route, I would be tempted to stay.

lalala,

Don't abandon ship too fast. JFK-SEA is a very strong possibility. TWA has officially stated that they plan to continue expanding and adding more transcon flying out of JFK. My guess is that SEA is right at the top of that list.

I understand and share your frustration, but Karabu is just kicking the crap out of TWA's transatlantic flights. I give TWA some credit for going head-to-head with AA on the newly announced MIA-SJU flights, though. That takes some guts, especially in TWA's position.

While I frankly don't see how it will, I do hope that this helps and it works out for them. They've lost money now for 12 years straight - and I mean like nearly 360 million in the red last year alone! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I mentioned about LISBON & MILAN a few weeks ago in a different thread.
It seems TW is slowly getting out of JFK in regards to Europe. They'll have TLV.CAI,CDG. By reestablishing Germany via STL they don't have to deal with Karabu since it didn't exist before this.If I'm correct it pretained only to those that were up and going at that time.
The only problem is if you're based East of STL youre out of luck. Don't know what % of the flights that flew out of JFK were with passengers that started out from STL and West. That to me is the main point if any route will make it or not. Tel Aviv and Cario are with people mainly from the East coast so STL will not be an option for TW in regards to these flights.

The other question is how are they doing with all the new flights they started.I was told LAX-SanJuan didn't do the #'s. And from the new promo for free 1st class tkts I think they are hurting.Yet if they are to remain they must what they are doing, otherwise they will dead in no time. The only question is are they dying a slow death?
As per their press release, the new flights to New York from STL are to LGA and EWR and NOT JFK. Those of you in STL your dream might not be fay away-lower fares. Can't help but think that AA will counter TW by hitting harder at STL as a pay back.by vastly increasing its flights there.

craz,

This is wrong. Karabu can, and will, apply to tickets being sold to FRA. As long as the flight is not originating or terminating in STL. The fact that the service is new does not exclude Carl from selling the seats for next to nothing.

The tickets on the new nonstop transcons (LAX-DCA, SNA-JFK) are also being sold by Icahn.

Lalala,

I am a long term supporter of TWA. But to be honest, if you fly as much as you say, then you may want to consider Continental. Their top flyers get 125% bonus miles, unlimited free domestic upgrades. And a ton of locations in which to use your miles (on Continental and their partners).

Perhaps TWA might consider opening an Ambassador's Club location in MIA if they're planning to undermine AA. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Continental seems like a smart bet for you:
1) 4 non stops to NYC/EWR
2) One of the largest US airlines to Europe
3) ability to earn onepass miles on Alaska and Horizon (big in SEA)
4) Presidents club in SEA
5) Numerous awards

Hi Guys,
After hearing about the pullout of Portland, ME (another place we go), my partner and I discussed another airline. Continental seems to be the best one for us. The non-stops from Oakland to EWR/NY are also a winner, since we also have a residence in the East Bay and often leave from SFO, not having to deal with SFO would be a plus.

I am going to look at their flight routes, see how to build up miles with them and try and figure out how to start from scratch. I don't have scads of miles on TWA (200 K), but they are just from the past 3 years. I'm sad to see them cutting services to the markets that I use.

Sort of like firing a loyal employee.
