Flying Star Alliance and Earning Miles & Smiles Points

Since TK is in league in the Star Alliance w/other airlines like United, Air Canada, Lufthansa etc. If one were to fly one of TK's partners does one also earn M&S points too?

Apologies if this question is redundant I'm just new to the whole airlines points game. Also I was considering taking one of TK's partner's home this Christmas instead of TK it's self due to the recent blowup between Turkey and the US.

Yes, if the fare eligible to to earn frequent flyer miles/points. Some low cost fares can earn nothing, buy depends on the airline.

I think it automatically signed me up when I booked through TK's website.

Is there any negative to being a member?
