LH Group and TK to end codeshare agreement
According to German media, Lufthansa Group and Turkish Airlines will cancel their code share agreement. The article says that the LH Group is very unhappy with the rapid expansion of TK in Germany. LH will also credit less miles for TK flights and exclude more booking classes from the Miles&More program.

Here is the LH M&M announcement on their website:
Please note the following changes to the award of status miles for flights [on TK] from 1 January 2014:
from the flight date 01.01.2014 you will receive 25% of the award miles you earn as status miles.
It will be interesting to see how TK will react. I credit my LH miles to UA anyhow but I guess
TK will also reduce the miles one gets on LH flights.

Over on BT:
If TK has any common sense they will not lower themselves to those to such petty "retaliation".
Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines in 'commercial rift'
In theory, members of an airline alliance are supposed to be the best of friends. But, in reality, the truth can be very different.
This appears to be the case with two of Star Alliance's key members — Germany's Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines — said to be embroiled in a commercial rift.

It looks like only LH and OS will cancel the codeshare agreement. Will be interesting to see what strategy LX is after. One can't connect to LX's North America network arriving Zurich from Istanbul, save for the late afternoon departure to Newark.

wow, lh seems really scared of tk.
only 25% miles on m&m, huge complaining at the lh dialog 2013 event, no more sen-lounge access for non m&ms and now the cancelled codeshares. are they trying to isolate themselfs?
real petty and i'm glad i can avoid lh.

Well basically Lufthansa are pissing people off with their M&M enhancements, customers fleeing to left and right. If they don't want to loose market share to TK and the gulf carriers, then maybe devaluating their loyalty program isn't the smartest idea. LH made their bed, and now they have to sleep in it…
I hope TK doesn't sink down to LH's level by cutting earnings on LH Group flights.

One suspects LH has some issues coming to terms it won't be top dog in Europe for that much longer. Cancelling TK codeshares and "forbidding" its M&M members to fly TK won't help in that regard.

Even M&M members know that other *A programs exist. And those that don't are most likely blue (or maybe silver?) anyway.

Poor LH...
First they complained about the Gulf airlines... They even blocked EK entry to BER, what in a way prompted EY to purchase a stake in AB (BER-AUH is operated with AB metal)...
Now they complain about TK...
Looks like improving services to be able to better compete with the Middle Easterns and TK is not the option for them...
