But it still begs the question, why is the office only open from 10am to 3pm, with at best 1 available appointment per month? And I just grabbed the single one left for Nov, so the next person is going into Dec.

Keep checking back for an earlier appointment. The 10:20 appointment you saw for tomorrow was most likely someone's cancellation. If you keep checking back, you can probably snag a better time/day.

GE appointments open up at various times -- quite often on Sunday for Monday -- so keep checking back every day at different times of the day.

I can tell you the day that we arrived, I zipped through the GE line but my work colleagues I was travelling with stayed in the regular customs line. It took them 1:35 minutes from plane to Sky Club, it took me about 30 minutes from plane to Sky Club.

Plane to SkyClub involve them using a regular TSA security screening line? Either way, groups of people often take longer to get around because they end up waiting here and there for others in the group to do shopping, go to the bathroom, look around, chat, etc. The better benchmark is time from plane door to time to get out of baggage claim, or something more akin to that while avoiding grouped people as a benchmark.

I've had a lot of entries at MSP, and I've never had 1+ hour waiting times to get to passport control at MSP. I'd be surprised if they never happened, but such a long wait is far from common there -- it'd be extremely rare.

Admittedly, I don't re-enter the country very often through MSP. Living in ATL, I'm fortunate to be able to get more or less direct international flights or I'm coming back in via LAX if traveling to Australia. I've personally (or my group) has had a 1+ hour wait in customs now in MSP twice in recent years. On my most recent trip (last month) coming in from NRT and a trip a couple years ago coming back from YXE. This may in fact be more the exception than the rule (and I'm thankful for this if its the case!) but given my small percentage of international flights passing through there, a few experiences start to seem more like the norm rather than the exception. Fortunately, with GE, all the wait times for re-entry seem to be relatively short!

Applied 10/21

Conditional approval 10/23

Plenty of interview slots available in Houston on all days including Saturdays and Sundays. Could have scheduled the interview for 10/24, but did not want to deal with the traffic to IAH on a weekday. Scheduled the interview for 4:00 PM on 10/26

Watched the video and the officer explained the program. No questions were asked, other than photo and fingerprints. Was approved immediately. Four officers were conducting interviews.

Apparently there is some chance some people approved will not be shown a video. I saw it happen earlier this month where some people approved didn't get shown a video -- still not sure what was behind that.

The machine was broken when I went in for my appointment years ago, so I've never seen the video and just figured it out from the directions on the screen ;)

Lots more GEniuses out there as of late. :D

If the technology isn't broken, then it's the people or processes (not) using the technology which may be considered sort of broken/inconsistent.

Those of us with NEXUS don't get a GE video or demo.

I remember the being forced to watch the video. When my wife signed up for GE earlier this year, her entire interview lasted about 3 minutes with no video and no demonstration at all on how to use the kiosks.

What would be better than a video is a mock entry where they take you through an actual (mock) use. It's easy to read, but after a long int'l flight seeing that timer tick down is a bit more pressure than you might want.

I've heard (and read on FT) of people getting hands-on experience with a dummy kiosk during their interview. Seems that this would be a nice addition to give someone that experience before they hold up the line of people who are also grumpy and tired after a long international flight who all know how to use the kiosks. Might make CBP's jobs a bit easier too!

At JFK facility, they have both a video and mockup kiosk to practice on.....

Plus at Terminal 1 GE kiosks, they have an officer standing nearby to help. My wife returned earlier this month for first time and officer help walk her through the process ^^^

Anyone know if it's possible to change one's GOES username? I was assigned a random number surrounded by my initials early in the program's history. Now I believe you can choose one that's a bit more memorable than D3525931G.

Just used GE for the first time at LAX. Including the walk from the gate, clear of Customs and Immigration in 8 minutes. Coworkers were about 40 mins without GE.

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 9:15 pm.
