So I misplaced my Global Entry card. I was required to pay the $25 processing fee. Does anyone know how long it takes before a replacement card is received? Will I have to go back into the Global Entry office at the airport to get processed again?

My first GE experience went very well - NRT-ORD arrival - 5 kiosks open and no waiting. Scanned passport and fingerprints - 10 seconds max and the receipt printed out! Had to wait for baggage to come down, but then the exit officer simply took my receipt and I was off. Couldn't be happier - well worth it.

What's funny about my card picture is when the picture was taken, there was a backdrop screen behind my chair, I guess to block out the stuff in the background, but when I got the card, you can see the backdrop screen, plus everything stickouting from behind the screen (pictures hanging on the wall, the computer on the desk on the side, the lights on the ceiling lol). That plus the picture being all webcam pixelated.

A very simple cropping of the photo would of made it look a little better on the card, but I think pretty much the picture is entered onto the card as it is taken (no editing etc).

If I didn't know about the card and how it it is, I would think it looks like a poor fakery.

However, it really doesn't matter to me how the photo looks on the card as I won't be using it much (if at all) I care more about the benefits of actually using the program at those ever so busy international airports.

When they took my photo, the CBP agent picked up the camera from its stand and held it a foot away from my face. Picture came out properly with no extra background noise. Maybe those Logitech cameras they use just have really wide angle lenses?

I don't think I can repeat the words Mrs. GHF used to describe the quality of the picture on her recently acquired GE card. Let's just say that a driver's license photo is a portrait compared to the GE card (and the GE photo was taken at IAD)

any GE benefit traveling to/from USVI?
 

I'll be flying to and from the U.S. Virgin Islands in December, flying directly from the U.S. mainland (probably SEA-ATL-STT-ATL-SEA). While the USVI is not a foreign country, they are considered a "port of entry" and you do go through customs when returning to the mainland (and there's a duty-free allowance on alcohol etc).

Will I get any benefit from having GE on this trip? ie would I save time in the customs line?

What if I flew through Puerto Rico to get to the USVI?

I don't think so.

The main draw of the program is so you don't have to wait long to get through immigration lines, which means you beat everyone else before the customs lane gets crowded, but in your case, passengers don't go through incoming immigration they all go strait to customs, so you're pretty much in line with everyone else.

Well, I applied Sept 26 and was conditionally approved on November 3. But here's the weird part. Everything on the documentation I received back was for Nexus. Even the appointment places were land border crossings, not airports.

There were phone numbers next to each office so I called the closest one. Amazingly someone answered on the 2nd ring even though I was expecting some automated phone system, wait on hold, all that. She was pretty helpful, she said that when I applied for GE, I must have clicked the box for Nexus instead. Something about the default on the GOES site. So I asked her, well, I really want GE, can you help me with that. She said yes, when you come down for the appointment, ask for GE and you'll get that as well.

Has anyone else had something similar happen (meant to sign up for GE but signed up for Nexus instead?)

I did my GE interview on Friday in LAS. LAS is closest to me for the interview and it gave me a chance to play some craps...

Anyway, I was only asked to show my passport, none of the other supporting ID that the interview letter said to bring (current DL with correct address or a mortgage payment or utility bill or such showing current address). I watch the 5 minute video. I was asked about my trips to Egypt and Jordan that I took 2 years ago. The officer took my photo - kind of funny, she picked up the webcam orb and just pointed it at me without telling me she was going to take my photo. She said I was done. I asked her about the sticker for my passport. She said they don't do those anymore since the machines use the passport. I asked her about the card and she said they don't do them either since they don't do anything - it's all about the passport. I asked her a couple of times about the sticker and her reply was the same - they did away with them.
I did ask her about the FT rumor that a GE person can use the crew lanes at airports. She tried calling a bunch of people to get an answer - she said it was an interesting question. She finally got someone who said that it is only good to try to do that at an airport where the GE kiosks are malfunctioning.

So, I guess I'll wait the week or so that the GOES site said it takes for my card to show up. If anyone gets an extra sticker somewhere, send me a PM - I'd like one for no other reason that I want one to wave at the CBP folks when I do "front of the line" maneuvers :-)

The card was sent to me automatically after I was approved for GE in September. It arrived exactly 7 days after my interview.

I know the site says it is automatic and takes about a week. The agent's comment about not having cards anymore was why I made the comment about waiting to see...

Did you receive a sticker to put on your passport?

To my knowledge the cards are printed locally at the airport where you did your interview at. When I got my card, the return address showed that it came strait from the airport office I did my interview at. Interesting that your officer said that "they don't do them", they should be doing them (if you don't get yours within 7-14 days I say give em a call and see whats up, I got my card in less than a week), or maybe it's another person at the Global Entry office that does the printing, laminating and mailing of the cards and she's unaware of them.

For using the crew lane if a machine malfunctioned, in this scenario (malfunctioning machine), I was told: "cut to the front of ANY line", so it depends on the airport, but the crew lane can be far from the GE kiosks to utilize anyway, just cut in front of the nearest available line.

No mention about utilization of crew lanes at non GE equipped airports. All the major airports I utilize have GE setup so the question never came across my mind to ask. But I think it would be a nice benefit to extend out, at least until those airports that don't have them can be equipped with GE kiosks.

The CBP person who did my interview put the sticker on himself in the office. There was a giant roll of them in a cabinet.

I don't see why you can't stop by a GE office during your travels and ask for a sticker...

I would ask for the sticker at any other airport. Had to show it a couple weeks ago at ORD.
