Does TTP/Global Entry check passport validity when applying/renewing?

So I am 98% sure my passport is valid. I am working through an issue with IRS on back taxes. They sent a letter at some point saying they were "certifying" to the state department and that the state department "could' revoke or not renew my passport which expires in May 2029. Some research tells me that 1) the state department sually sends their own letter if they take action. 2) anecdotal evidence is that they do not revoke, they just wont renew you.

Anyway I am trying to figure out for sure that the passport is valid and calls (4 calls)to the Passport office have been useless. So I am trying to figure out as a Delta non rev passenger when is passport validity checked? Does Fly Ready check before you fly if you have entered all your docs? Is it at TSA flying out? The destination country? On the return coming back in the U.S.? Also I just had Global Entry renewed within the last year. Do they check during the renewal process? I would think so. If not surely when I return and scan my passport at the kiosk?

Sorry for the long post.
