Thanks for this well-timed heads-up. I think I'll skip Global Entry, since most of my travel is domestic and I value TSA Pre much more. Judging from other threads, GE isn't a panacea anyway.

Global Entry uses my first and last name.
My passport uses my first, middle and last name. United says my name must match my passport, so I've carefully seen to it that more recent tickets are purchased with all three names. I can never get trusted traveler pre check because Global Entry only uses 2 of my 3 names. It's really discouraging. I infrequently buy an international ticket with more than just first and last name fields filled. The less info has been better for me. I reliably enter in the GE number in the Known Traveler fields. That makes much of the difference for me from trip to trip. |

You are allowed to join GE without informing the airline. As long as you do not enter your GE PASS ID into your airline information, you will continue to qualify for PreCheck as you have in the past. With this arrangement, you can use GE when traveling internationally, and PreCheck when using domestic airports.
Does anyone else cover the fee aside from Amex for their Platinum cardmembers? I assume the Plat benefit doesn't cover the non-Plat spouse, btw. |

FWIW My permanent resident card (which I use in GE machines) has first name, middle initial, last name. My GE card has first name and last name only. I have never used this card. My driver license has all three names in full. I have had pre-check precisely twice in the past 18 months. |
Almost every employer I've heard of who has people traveling internationally, pays for GE, although at $20/year, it's hardly a dent for a FF. Presume that most will cover the new TSA-pre program as well.

GE: First & Middle name in Admissibility & Citizenship first name boxes
Got my Global Entry approval yesterday, but noticed in GOES that in the Admissibility and Citizenship sections my first and middle name both appear in the First Name box, while the Middle Name box is blank. (It is only for these two sections, which both reference my passport. Every other listing on the page for my name has my middle name in the middle name spot.)
I'm assuming this is because my US Passport doesn't have separate first and middle name lines - just one for Given Names. But given the glitches that can be caused by differences in names, I wanted to check with the forum to see if others' names also showed up like this in those two sections on GOES. Thanks! |
Mine is like that. I stopped in and ask about it at the DFW GE office and was told it was not a problem and it has not caused me any problems with GE, Pre-Check, or SES in Korea.

Thanks - that makes me feel better!

Global Entry Middle Name Issues
I know if you don't have your middle name in your reservation (secure passenger info) you won't get pre-check. I have a couple international flights coming back to the US. As I didn't have GE when I made those, I didn't include my middle name. If I add my GE# to those reservations, will GE work for me when I get back? Just wondering if I can avoid the hassle of calling the airlines and getting reticketed with my middle name. Thanks.

As far as I know, GE has nothing to do with the name on your plane ticket. As long as your passport is properly registered in the GOES system, you should be good to go.

Welcome to FlyerTalk oats603!!!
The only reason to worry about your middle name is for PreCheck. I have just taken the trouble to make sure that my secure flight data matches my passport and GE. Not for any GE specific reason. Primarily to get the expedited Precheck security screening. |
