Three Beeps.....
First flight after doing my Global Entry/Known Traveller sit down interview at DTW....
DFW to DTW this morning and guess what...the first time in 6 months I do not get the TSA pre check on my boarding pass...I even get TSA pre check on my home airport GSP boarding pass which is not even a participating airport....
It was my understanding that by spending $100 and doing the sit down interview I was assured TSA pre check.....is it still a hit and miss program?

Programs: Now just a lowly DL PM/1MM. This industry needs some competition. It's just not enjoyable anymore.

Hang in there. I missed recently for the first time since the program began. After the initial panic wore off, I checked in for my return flight home, and there was the comforting green check with TSApre in small print on my mobile BP.
While you will probably get it a very high % of time, you may miss it here and there. I agree, bad timing though.

I had the same problem immediately after my GE interview, and it was NOT the "randomness" of the program. In my case, there was a discrepancy between the the way my name showed up in the DHS database and on my Skymiles account. Once I made sure my first, middle and last names were laid out the identical way on both, I got my three beeps again and have gotten them every time.

There's zero proof to the assertions that GE gives you better odds. The main benefit is that you can get Pre when flying on other airlines where you don't have status.

Anyone have an idea why I never get the indicator on my mobile BP even if I am good for Pre-Check? I tend to "print" the boarding pass to the screen to see if I have it or not and then still use the mobile pass and I am fine.

Not really true. I have GE, but have never bothered to put my known traveller number in my profile and have only missed out on Pre with international itins.

I have GE and (for the second time in a year) was denied on the way home this week.
Others are speculating without any proof that because they have GE and haven't been denied yet that it must mean you are guaranteed it every time.
It sucked too because it was IAH and I had to go to Terminal A where the SkyPriority line was longer than the regular one (of course they don't police it so who knows how many kettles were in the line anyway).

The random feature covers two things: the random feature and malfunctions/mistakes. I have seen eight pax in a row rejected at DCA over not getting the beeps. Eight in a row is not likely to be random in my book. While I was in the adjacent line no one got the beeps for Pre.

No guarantees with PreCheck, other than just the usual TSA predictable unpredictability.
