I was turned down for Global Entry, so my chances of getting Precheck are nil. SFO and SJC are my home airports. So that is why I use Clear. It has worked very well for me.

Clear has also been added to IAH and SJC. So a pretty good deal for people who travel to/from San Francisco bay area (though alas still not at OAK )
Also noticed a recent update on Clear/Precheck integration, more good news for CLEAR users:
Travel Tip: CLEAR and PreCheck Integration
If you have PreCheck, you now get the best of both worlds! You can use the CLEARlane as usual to avoid the long security lines. We'll scan your boarding pass and bring you to the PreCheck screening lane (if eligible for that flight) where you can keep your shoes and belt on, etc.
The CLEAR PreCheck experience is currently available in Denver, Orlando, and San Francisco. PreCheck integration will be available in both terminals at San Jose International once PreCheck opens there next month.

Clear - worthwhile use of $179?
If I'm understanding correctly, this is only a benefit if there is a long line in the PreCheck lane and that's assuming they escort you to the front of the PreCheck?

Prior to this time CLEAR members were forced to choose between CLEAR (which in my experience never has a line at SFO or DEN) and Pre-Check, which brings its own subsantial benefits (no shoe removal, no nudeoscope). Now CLEAR members can use the CLEAR lane without sacrificing the benefits of Pre-Check - in fact they can cut to the front of the Pre-check line.
Again not a big deal at some airports but I have seen Pre-Check lines at SFO where everyone and their mothers have GE and elite status on UA.

I'm not eligible for Pre Check, so I have Clear. I love it, and it helps alot at SFO. I'm happy to see that Clear is now opened at SJC. I fly once/week, and I consider it worth it.

With GE giving you pre-check, lots of pax being sent to pre-check lines and the ability to purchase pre-check from TSA, how many pax will be opting for CLEAR?

The problem is that with so many people qualifying for Pre-Check now, the lines can be pretty long. With CLEAR, if you have Pre-Check, you get to cut to the front of the Pre-Check line which can be a real timesaver.

Now, even with non-pc being sent to pc lane, it still never takes me more than 5 minutes (at LAS) to get through security.

Yeah with the stated goal of moving 50% of traffic to Pre-check lines by the end of the year, CLEAR will become pretty valuable by years end.

At least in DCA, there are now multiple lanes processing PreCheck. It still goes much faster than the regular lane. As more people use PreCheck, I think (like DCA) most airports will just add more PreCheck lanes. I'm not seeing a scenario which would encourage me to get Clear on top of GE/PreCheck.

So I heard a radio commercial for CLEAR offering some period of free enrollment, I bit. I entered some info online and was required to come to the airport to complete the sign-up process. I entered a promo code, FLYVEGAS .
When I got to LAS, I walked right past the large but invisible CLEAR booth and woiund up next door at the PreCheck booth. PreCheck, it was explained, is $99.. The heck with that, I've got CLEAR for free!
I finally found the booth where my passport, DL, eyes and fingers were duly scanned. The young lady said I would be receiving my CLEAR card in 7 days. "So this means I don't have to take off my shoes? How much is the enrollment after the free trial period?" $179, and you still do have to take off your shoes. The only thing you get for your $179 is a pass to the front of the security line.
1. All you get is a line pass? For $179??!! And you still have to take off your shoes??!!
2. If all you get is a line pass, what's the point of collecting your eyeball and fingerprint scans? Who cares if some bad guy with bad-guy fingerprints gets to go to the front of the line? There wouldn't be any increased risk or threat to aviation, right?
3. What's the value proposition of this? Surely any DYKWIA can figure out how to get to the front of the line? For example by buying an upgrade??

Personally for our travel I really can't see the advantage of CLEAR. Maybe it works well for those who have it in their home airport and travel to and from the few cities that have CLEAR. We have CLEAR here but then again the line has been closed down the last two times we flew out so that's another issue.
