COexp EWR BUF
This is a report of a rather "odd" flight on Continental Express on Christmas Day EWR BUF around 4pm
Security at EWR took only a minute, if that, which was a pleasant surprise. Seems the detail at "liquids and gels" has slacked off because I brought my regular size toiletries and nothing was said, as I have on at least 3 or 4 previous flights.
Boarding was right on time, and the flight was not quite full which is unusual on the 50 seat Embrarer flights to BUF.
The FA on the flight was probalby the oldest flight attendant I've ever seen. Push back was on time, if not early. And with great weather, and a reduced Christmas Schedule, take off was within 10 minutes.
Back to the FA - I am by no means whatsoever against older FA"S, etc. However, this guy was scruffy, clothes were dirty, and it was shocking based on his appearance that he was a FA. After take off he dozed off for a good 10 - 12 minutes. I was in seat 1A on the plane, and nobody was in 2A. I was stunned. After a while, I woke him, asking if there would be a beverage service, which there usually is. The weather was flawless. He got up, and poured me water out of the aircraft water, which he tested the temperature of the water with his fingers as it poured into my glass. Needless to say, I didnt' drink a drop. He said at that point, there wasn't enough time for beverages. He sat back down, and ate probalby 10 - 15 hershey kisses, and blew his nose over and over, and never washed his hands.
Basically it was disturbing to say the least that the only FA on board was sleeping, secondly, he appearance, and behaviour was just shy of disgusting.
Fortunately I have never encountered anybody this unprofessional, and unsafe in my opinion. God help us is we had some sort of emergency. If I ever board another COEXpress and he is the sole FA, I'm on another plane.
The return from BUF - EWR today, was a whole different experience. Aside from being almost 2 hours late, the FA was professional, witty, and made the best of a miserable delay - could they only all be that way.
