CO757 Winglet Trip!
What a pleasant surprise this was yesterday....
We had a return trip planned from BDA to DTW via EWR. Due to some bad weather in EWR our EWR-DTW flight was cancelled (as was the next flight after) and we were re-routed EWR-CLE-DTW. The biggest surprise of all was a Continental 757-200 with winglets on the EWR-CLE leg!
At first I thought it was a 737-700 with blended wingtips (kinda cool for me as I usually fly NWA), so as we waited to be pushed from the gate, I looked at the safety placard and it said that the plane was a 757-200. "Pfft!", I said to myself. Not a chance. But then I looked at the placard in my wifes seat: 757-200. Then they FA announced the equipment as a Boeing 757. Yeeehaw! We left the gate but were placed on the tarmac to wait out the t-storms in EWR. This ~1 hour tarmac wait gave me plenty of time to stare at the 8-foot beauties. We finally took off and landed at CLE. I noticed how much taller the 757 is than the 737-700 (with winglets) we parked next to. The weather delays in EWR meant that we missed our connector and the next (and last) DTW flight out of CLE. So we ended up renting a vehicle for the final leg. So I guess the final leg was CLE-DTW in a Toyota Sienna!
I had no idea that the 757 with blended wingtips were in service already. I had read somewhere that they were not EIS until July.
Kinda boring I know but I thought I would share.
