Friday May 20th, 2005
I woke up around 230am to get showered and dressed and finish packing since we had an early morning departure, we had to leave our house by 400am to make it to the airport by 445am. We arrived a little before 5, Since I am familiar with airports I decided to handle check-in, and to just have my aunt and grandfather sit down and wait. I headed to the e-ticket check-in kiosk and there was about a 5-10mn wait for one to open up. Got to the kiosk, and typed in our confirmation number. I didnt change our seats since it wasnt really a long flight, and we were close by the lavatory. I was assigned seat 28F, while my aunt and grandfather were right behind me in 29DF. After our boarding passes had printed, a message came on the screen saying "Please wait for an agent to tag your bags". Well so we waited for about 10mn to get our bags tagged. After a while an agent calls out my name and I give her my bags, which really ticked off this guy, who had apparently checked in before me, and was wondering how my tags printed out before his. Well I found out he was going to DEN and his flight wasnt leaving until 715am. Mine was leaving 30mn before his, I told him to calm down. I then headed over to my grandpa and aunt, and handed them their boarding cards. As I was scanning my boarding ticket I noticed it, the dreaded SSSS, and I was like "Oh S**T. I was so pissed, cuz I know that when you get those dreaded SSSS, it takes forever to clear security (By the way this was the first time I have ever gotten it). Anyhow we waited for a wheelchair for my gramps and headed towards the security checkpoint for the D concourse/North Satellite. Our departure gate was D3 so it wasnt that far a walk from check-in. Now here comes the bad part, while it took my aunt and grandpa about 5mn to clear security it took me around 20mn. I actually struck a conversation up with this really hot guy, who was flying to IAD on UA. Turns out he was supposed to go SEA-PHX-IAD on a 530am flight out of SEA but he missed it, so got put on UA instead. Back to the security check-point. It's not that long of a line, but when I get closer to the detector, apparently you wait there for about 10mn, and some guy is standing on the other side, and when he sees that your bag is about to go thru the detector, he asks for your boarding pass, but still makes you wait on the other side of the detector. After a while it was my turn to go thru the detector. It was a breeze, then I had to wait in another line before they could search me. After a while I went over to the guy so he could wand me, which wasnt bad, he had be undo my belt, which was fine. After I cleared security we got to the gate around 550am. I decided I wanted to check out the new pacific marketplace that opened up a couple weeks earlier. I headed over there, and since it took a while to get there. I really didnt have time to check it out. I decided to get some starbucks, and then headed to the gate and waited about 10mn. Since we were priority boarding we boarded at 610am. Before first class and elite pax. We got on the plane and found our seats. Our flight was staffed with 5 crew 2 flight deck and 3 cabin crew, all of which were SEA based. FC was served with 1 male f/a while the Y cabin was served by 2 extremely friendly female flight attendants. Around 630am the f/a doing the annoucements, made an annoucement that we were doing final boarding, and we would be off in a few moments, Or so we thought. 645am comes and goes, 655am, 700am, 715am etc. So I'm wondering what the hell is goin on, I hpe there isnt anything wrong with the engine, as I am terrified of MD80s and just hate them with a passion. So after a while I decide to find out why we are delayed, apparently the phones for the f/a's to communicate to each other was shorting out. The P/A to make announcements was working, but just for the f/a's to talk to each other was not, so they had to replace them. Finally they were replaced, doors were shut and armed. Strang thing though, the pilots say "Flight attendants prepare doors for departure & cross check", and the f/a's say "Cabin secure, cross-check complete". Push-back commenced at 752am, and we were airborne by 806am. Our flight time was estimated at 1hr 54mnAfter about 20mn the f/a's commenced the beverage service since rows 27-32 are near the galley, they decided to just hand out drinks instead of bringing out the cart. They would use the cart for rows 6-26. I had a sprite, with some cookie. It was good. After that I tried to rest, but since we were near the engine it was damn near impossible. MD80's are so damn loud. Descent began around 20mn before touchdown. We landed at 958am, and made a quick taxi to gate C14. Deplaned thru the front left hand door. In SJC the use both exits, 1L and the tailcone exit on the MD80, but since my grandpa was a WCHR pax, we used the 1L door, and used a ramp to get down, instead of the aft airstairs. We got into the terminal, headed for baggage claim, and waited for about 2.5 hours, for my uncle to pick us up from Vallejo, apparently there had been a miscommunication on what time we were arriving, they had wrote down we arriving at 845pm, not 845am. So my aunt decided to get a rental car and just drive to Vallejo, took us about 5 hours to get from SJC airport to Vallejo, which should've only taken an hour or so. It was an experience though, and I am seriously thinking of moving to California. Return trip to follow soon. (This is my first trip report on here, so please be kind)
