A gift from Izola
Let's get this out of the way first: I thought Izola was quite nice, but nothing special. Parking was difficult. When I went back to the car, a guy in uniform came up to me. When I got to the car, there was a parking ticket stuck to my windscreen. After searching around for a while, I found the sign saying that only residents were allowed to park there. Welcome to Izola – once is enough.

How annoying! Italy certainly requires more research when parking than other European countries. You should expect a clear universal "no parking" sign with underneath an exception for residents, instead of obscure hard-to-notice signs of ambiguous format.
