Attempt 2? Read attempt 1 here

After an extra night in a hotel - and done in from Oktoberfest! - I get up leisurely and head to the airport at 1pm. Flight isn’t till 1630 but I’ve seen the sights here many times. The sun is glorious, it’s 20C, so I’m happy riding the train.

I hear the weather is crappy in UK so I keep an eye on the inbound as I go through fast track in security & due to my leg fast track through passport control (thank God, coz today’s queue is horrific).

1330 in the lounge. Not hungry but I get some Riesling & enjoy the view.



Because of last nights disruption we have 2 Emirates A380s here today.

The inbound is only 5 mins delayed so everything is looking on time for now - unless drones or weather have other plans for us. Very likely.


1555 the flight in has landed. I head to the horrible boarding area in gate c10.

1625 still waiting to board. Flight is scheduled to take off in 5. Whaaaat is going on !!

1629 delayed. Technical issue with the A319. Gonna be an expensive weekend in Munich for BA! I can see people working on the aircraft. They’ll update us in 20.

1653 no messages yet. Men at work (well, on a ladder) still.

1710 tech issue still happening. Come back at 1900 to find out more. Back to lounge I go. I phoned BA to ask if they can put me on 1910 but they said it’s FULL.

1745 no screens updated. Still says 1630 go to gate. Was in lounge & Just came down to speak to ground staff to ask for & pilot (should be a model, btw!!) was out. They say it’s an air conditioning issue. Should get an updated in 30 for them & then at 1900 the rest of us.

1825 I came down & boarding was already being done. No messages on screen, no announcements, no notes for anything.

1835 on board, defo no AC working. Not a fan of the crew so far, too. They’re as .....y as last nights’. Do they think club can’t hear them if they talk in the galley? Did get a gold “welcome back” though. Not sure it’s the vibe for it, 2h30 hours late (this is off the back of my 2h55 delay last week from Romania!).

1858 pilot is not happy about something. I’m 100% sure we left someone in the lounge. Anyway, doors shut.

1900 pilots doors close.

1910 we haven’t moved. Jetty still attached. They reopened the door….

1915 announcement: Munich airport is closed!!

I’m about to go to jail for murder.

Captain has said we’ll not be going anywhere tonight, and we should make time to get off.

1918 hold the phone. Munich Reopens. Sadly 2 people ran off. So now we got to go find them.

1940 captain says we got ‘em. We’re good to go. Waiting for ground staff.

1950 we have a slot. We get prepping.

2005 we are headed to the runway. Now look out for the drone show

2013 blast off! And a very bumpy ascent as we went up in the sky.

2023 seatbelt sign still on. Crew still in seats, it’s that bumpy.

No WiFi, no plug, but it’s ok coz I just realised I left my charger on the plane last night!!

2026 they’re up & getting our dinner ready: Afternoon Tea 😆

2032 the drinks begin. Good move filling me up.




2050 Afternoon tea for dinner arrives with a second refill (asked).



2100 has to ask for another. This time the bottle popped open so hard the spray flew on to the ceiling!

2104 okkk here we go. Glass 4. You can tell the IFL is an old timer, she does the champagne down the aisle, water down the aisle, anything else down the aisle spiel.




2115 I’ve turned this into a night out with friends. It’s been a rough 24 hours (defo BA’s fault. If they arrived on time yesterday, we would have gone before the Drones turned up!!).


2135 10 mins to landing. Somehow I’m hammered (I think it’d more to do with the tiredness!) but I gotta finish my drink now…

2046 touchdown. I’m so glad. But I imagine buses await coz I’m me…

question: is the delay claimable? Tech issue was BA which caused 98% of the delay, but Munich meltdown wasn’t….
