Galleries north was chocka. Lad opposite me was taking business calls, which older gentleman beside me took offence to. My daughter whatsapped for Cadbury's so I popped down to Whsmith's.

Gate A11 was announced but there was no hurry to line up the groups. Oddly, when the call did come there seemed to be only a dozen in group one which seemed odd as there were at least 8 rows of club. Once onboard and settled I saw why. A whole family taking 3-4 rows, presumably transferred through London on the AA codeshare.

We pushed back a few minutes late and joined the queue out of Heathrow.

The crew were taking it easy starting the service. I'm not sure how long they thought they had but they were only halfway down the cabin when the captain announced almost landing.

Luckily I had cheated with a special meal so was served early on. I asked for my champagne and gin ginger in a plastic cup and still they didn't twig.

It was all a bit of a mad rush in the end but they managed it.

Unfortunately, I had made another rookie mistake of checking my rollaboard. Sure it was easier navigating LHR. However at Schiphol half the passengers stood at baggage conveyor 2 for an hour before one clever soul realised the bags were coming out at conveyor 4.

I'm in the train finally and almost home.

Very good trip report; Newcastle is second only to Heathrow as being my most visited airport and I visited Funchal a couple of years ago so very familiar sights in your photos.
