Good morning, my sleep was good. Enough for today. It is time to hit the road again. Gardyloo gave me some inspiration what to visit. So I changed my plans a little.
It should be a sunny and warm day today. |
Next stop Checkpoint Charlie.

You are crossing borders https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6a82641b17.jpg Checkpoint https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3692222208.jpg From the east german side https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...159e884ae8.jpg Well it is clear Across the street there is one more exibition about this checkpoint. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...48136c06c5.jpg Part of the wall https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...15c899c106.jpg Well I'm in the middle of noman's land and I'm still alive. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...11e5f5597f.jpg On this picture you see the canopy over multiple lanes. On the upper corner of this roof you see two buildings. There I am now https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a080536604.jpg Here another view of the building https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b3c32fdf0c.jpg Again in the deadly zone. Here was the wall There is a small beach area to hang out. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...387156068c.jpg Nothing special but a nice place for lunch. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...eb0d289dd9.jpg Seating area https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...64bc0c592a.jpg What would be Berlin without Currywurst. The one was ok. My lunch for today. |
In the afternoon I went to the Wall Memorial site. There is part of the wall and its surroundings saved.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a923bf8025.jpg Another deadly zone. The poles mark the former wall. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...48720bd5b5.jpg We will see this building multiple times. On the wall are pictures how it looked likes. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7bd523ddac.jpg Turn around and you would be in the deadly zone. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c119abce98.jpg Here are the original parts. The building from above is to the right. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ca060e2f70.jpg Looking through the wall Across the street there is a look out tower. Many steps to go up. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1a9463fa85.jpg Here the view from above. Before we were on the left and behind the second wall https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...56abe4a200.jpg A description how the wall was built. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0df1b9898c.jpg To build the wall they sacrified this church https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ac724eb595.jpg In the middle of the wall https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...96ef94120c.jpg The deadly zone. Now I'm back at the Hotel and took a nap. I'm tired from all the walking around. I'm undecided about dinner. Need to do some research or I gran something from around. I have to get up at silly o'clock tomorrow. |
There is still a lot to see. Two days isn't enough to see everything. I hope I could give some inspiration for any upcoming trip.
Tomorrow is time to go home. |

Thanks for the interesting insight to “my” city from a tourist’s point of view. It’s always nice to see things from a different perspective and one of the reasons I love having people to visit. You see sides of the city you’d never bother going to normally.

The old border was an absolutely surreal crossing back in early 1990. I crossed just east of Hamburg, the tracks for the motorised anti-vehicle barrier and the dog runs were still present. You couldn’t yet stop because clearance of the border zone had not even really begun, but the checkpoint buildings already looked like something from a post-apocalyptic film.

Good morning from the Senator Lounge.
This was the worst security experience I ever had. When you think of your worst experience it is even more worse. It took me ages to get through. I had 7 or 8 person in front of me and even then took me 25 min to get through. Amost everything went to secondary scanning and they weren't the fastest. When you fly from here be here early enough. Just my rcommendatio. Plan a minimum of 30 min for security only. Ah I forgot to mentiion that yesterday evening nothing happened. I went to REWE for something small. I was all the tim falling asleep. And this morning I had to get up 5am. Was early to bed. |

After security look out for theses signs. That one was just when you go up to food court. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e80c8042b4.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3b7e81cd0d.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1525b21b86.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9651c1462e.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...48df49c0d8.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bc87a84370.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c77818cfe6.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...40fded753e.jpg Finally something for breakfast. So I'll take the next chariot to get there. |
