Good morning, my sleep was good. Enough for today. It is time to hit the road again. Gardyloo gave me some inspiration what to visit. So I changed my plans a little.

It should be a sunny and warm day today.

Today we start our journey with the yellow subway.

From the subway station there was this little museum.

In German spoken areas he is very famous. In earlier days he was an italian swimmer and started later an actor career.

In the afternoon I went to the Wall Memorial site. There is part of the wall and its surroundings saved.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a923bf8025.jpg
Another deadly zone. The poles mark the former wall.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...48720bd5b5.jpg
We will see this building multiple times. On the wall are pictures how it looked likes.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7bd523ddac.jpg
Turn around and you would be in the deadly zone.

Here are the original parts. The building from above is to the right.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ca060e2f70.jpg
Looking through the wall

Across the street there is a look out tower. Many steps to go up.

Here the view from above. Before we were on the left and behind the second wall

A description how the wall was built.

To build the wall they sacrified this church

In the middle of the wall
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...96ef94120c.jpg
The deadly zone.

Now I'm back at the Hotel and took a nap. I'm tired from all the walking around. I'm undecided about dinner. Need to do some research or I gran something from around. I have to get up at silly o'clock tomorrow.

BMarkus May 31, 2025 8:55 am

There is still a lot to see. Two days isn't enough to see everything. I hope I could give some inspiration for any upcoming trip.

Tomorrow is time to go home.

Thanks for the interesting insight to “my” city from a tourist’s point of view. It’s always nice to see things from a different perspective and one of the reasons I love having people to visit. You see sides of the city you’d never bother going to normally.

I did that a couple of times when I visited Berlin as a student. Really cool and well worth doing. :)

The old border was an absolutely surreal crossing back in early 1990. I crossed just east of Hamburg, the tracks for the motorised anti-vehicle barrier and the dog runs were still present. You couldn’t yet stop because clearance of the border zone had not even really begun, but the checkpoint buildings already looked like something from a post-apocalyptic film.

Good morning from the Senator Lounge.

This was the worst security experience I ever had. When you think of your worst experience it is even more worse. It took me ages to get through. I had 7 or 8 person in front of me and even then took me 25 min to get through. Amost everything went to secondary scanning and they weren't the fastest. When you fly from here be here early enough. Just my rcommendatio. Plan a minimum of 30 min for security only.

Ah I forgot to mentiion that yesterday evening nothing happened. I went to REWE for something small. I was all the tim falling asleep. And this morning I had to get up 5am. Was early to bed.

Finally something for breakfast.

You also have a chariot service from the lounge. Here the info.

My flight is leaving from gate A20 which would be a 12 min walk. So I'll take the next chariot to get there.

BER really is a crap airport! Slow security even in the priority line and really long walks. The fact that LH have had to set up the shuttle service says it all. A complete s***show of an airport. Bring back Tegel! ;)

BMarkus Jun 1, 2025 12:24 am

And upgraded. I sit in JapesUK seat. 😁 1C

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...67312f024a.jpg
At boarding a got a new seat assignment. From 5A to 1C.

I think that's the first time this happened to me. And I'm Senator just a couple of month. Never had this with Oneworld Airlines.

Today D-AIUJ is the chariot to FRA. Boarding is still ongoing.
