Just a BA hoilday to Bucharest.

The Frist trip report. Let see how this gose. Will try and update fairly offen. If wanna follow on Instagram (george_explorers)

This will cover the start of my BAEC OWS renewal and qust for OWE, which the plan is to do in 3 BA hoildays. This one to Bucharest, and then 2 in September interwived covering 4 citys in the Baltic. Depending on how this gose there may be trip report for that.So since I don't live near any BA hub, frist destination was the local coach to station for the trip to LHR. For my positioning flight up to NCL, on the 1336. On time ish deapture for the short hope up to Newcastle operated by G-NEOX.

Club Europe for this fight in seat 1f. Frist time the front row seat. Have to say like the leg room and the additional space. not so sure if like it. I miss having my bag with all in-flight stuff at my feet. probably okay for a short hope maybe not so much for longer one.

It will allway amaze me how BA, can do the Club Europe service on such a short flight. Meal and drinks for a flight with jsut 40ish minutes in the air. And that the frist 40tps in bag.

For the frist nights accommodation was booked the Hiltion at NCL. Which is prefect for a trip like this. Short walk to the terminal, and fairly cheap for an airport hotel. As a hiltion gold from Amex Platinum. Treated to a slight room upgrade, plus a rather nice chocolate cookie. Alongside complementary drink voucher for the onsite bar. When holding status anywhere, especially when gifted it. I allways think never expect anything, and be presently surprised when something dose happen.

Booking the early flight always seems like a good idea at the time, but never as much when the alarm goes off at 3:30 in the morning.I have two flights today: NCL to LHR, and then onto OTP. If all goes well, I should have a few short hours in the T3 lounges.Despite being part of the digital generation, for some reason, I always prefer to have printed hard copies of my boarding passesmainly because the BA app is so terrible. With my printed boarding pass in hand, I headed off to fast track at Newcastle, which was very efficienta pleasant surprise.Next, I went to the Aspire Lounge, which is used by BA at NCL. I was guided into the Aspire Lux section, which I believe is used by BA and a couple of other airlines. When I arrived at 04:20, it was fairly empty, and I was one of only about three customers in this section of the lounge. I'll take 30 minutes from alarm to lounge any day!

NCL to LHR

seat 3F

Operated by G-EUPG a BA A319

As always, booking the first flight seems like a good idea at the time, but maybe not so much when you're boarding before 6:00 AM for a 6:00 AM departure. Everyone was on board for the short hop back down to Heathrow.Since it was a morning flight, breakfast was served, and for plane food, it was pretty good. You can check it out on the food thread Here

There wasnt anything particularly special about the flight itself. As I mentioned earlier, it always amazes me how quickly BA can complete the food service on such short flights.Upon landing at Heathrow, the usual happened. We pulled up off-stand, only to find that no one had turned on the stand guidance. We had to wait for about 20 minutes until someone arrived to marshal us onto the stand. Once on stand, the airbridge was attached, and we were on our way to Terminal 3.

London Heathrow Terminal 3:** If you're after the oneworld lounges, this is the place to be in the UK. There are several lounges, all of varying quality. For this short stay, I went to the Qantas lounge at T3. Having eaten on the flight and in the lounge at Newcastle before, I decided to go for a light snack in the lounge, opting for just a yogurt pot and an iced latte. It was slightly disappointing that there were no syrups, but it was by no means the end of the world. A short time later, it was off to gate 7 to board.

LHR to OTP BA886, operated by G-EUUO a British Airways A320.Seat 4F. Another Club Europe flight. The flight had delays. My luck finally ran out on flight 3, LHR to OTP. We boarded on time, more or less. The doors closed, and then came the air traffic control slot delay. First, 45 minutes, then a bit longer. When it was finally our slot time, we were met by a very busy Heathrow. No surprise there. We had to wait for other aircraft to taxi out of the way. Finally on the move, we were a minor 1 hour and 43 minutes late. Could have been worse; could have been better. At least it gave me plenty of time to look over the Menu . After a short taxi, take-off happened, and we were away. Next stop, Bucharest. Just after take-off, drinks began to be served. The go-to gin and lemonade was offered. I had the new-to-me nut mix and have to say it was goodI'm a fan indeed. Moving on to lunch, Ive posted the menu and images Here. In summary, I went for the chicken and found it to be good. I enjoyed it. Lunch was offered with another drink. Of course, I went with the gin and lemonade again, and it was, once more, very good. Nice and strong, just the way I like it. The rest of the flight went as expected. Nothing bad, nothing exceptional. Probably the way it should be. We landed in a very warm Bucharest at around 17:00 local time.

First evening in Bucharest.

To be brutally honest, not much happened.
From the airport to the hotel, as a semi-budget traveler, I opted for public transport, which took just over an hour, plus a 5-minute walk.
After getting up at 03:30 UK time, it had been a very long day. I finally arrived at my hotel around 18:35, checked in, and got to my room.
After getting settled and freshening up, I took a wander around the hotel to see what it had to offer. I found a lovely rooftop terrace on-site and spent a couple of hours relaxing in the sun.
And that was basically ita nice, chilled first evening. The way it should be..and afert that it off to bed. And to see what the first full day will bring..

I've been to Bucharest few years ago and remember that they have some great bars and restaurants in the old town. Food was just amazing! Enjoy!

Can't wait for your trip report! We are headed there in a couple of days, then on our way to Cluj via Brashov....

One thing that I have noticed; it takes forever to get a restaurant reservation as most don't have an online app to take reservations....The constant emailing back and fourth is much different than the US system.

**The First Full Day August 15** It's warm, very warm. The forecast predicts mid-30s Celsius, feeling like morecloser to 40C. So, yes, very warm. The plan for today is to explore the old town unguided in the morning and then join a guided tour of the Parliament building in the afternoon. After a quick breakfast at the hotel and a generous application of sunscreen, I was off for my first day of exploring the city. **First stop: the old town.** The initial plan was to join a free walking tour. However, after getting lost and seeing different sights, I missed the tour. So, I headed to Starbucks to plan the rest of the morning and early afternoon. Caramel iced latte in hand, the planning commenced. The vague plan was to wander the streets and visit some of the old churches and a convent. All which were stunning. After a while, I found a spot to sit in the shade and watch the world go by. It was a perfect way to pass the time until it was time to find the meeting point for my Parliament tour. I had booked this tour on GetYourGuide (affiliate link). After finding the meeting point and confirming I had my passport with me (which is essential for all visitors to the Parliament building), I went through the required security checks and was in. This place is hugelike, really big. It has 1,100 rooms on a site that covers around 7 square kilometers. The tour only covers a tiny portion of it. Post-tour, it was back to the hotel to stop being a hot, sweaty mess and become more presentable. It also provided a good opportunity to update Some social media. For the evening, I got some food and booked the next day's adventure. For dinner, I took a walk and found a place near my hotel, and that was a wrap on the first day.
