Private Jet and Plane Flights - Compendium of Review

I have decided to gather together all my reviews of flights in a private plane or jet here in this thread. In a way, each quoted post is like a mini trip report in itself and flying in a private plane is always a unique experience, no matter where it is or how many times you have done it. It will take me a little time to compile all the reviews from my various rolling trip reports here.

Amazing photography. I admire you Concerto

There's a couple things I dont do in life. One is eat couscous. And the other is to get into small planes like the ones you went it.

I went parachuting a long time ago and the best part of the entire "strap a bedsheet to your back and disembark at 10,000 feet" was actually disembarking! I actually looked forward to getting out. Ping me when you go in a G650 and then I'll be happy :)

Well, thank you very much. I do wonder about those small planes. Next Saturday I will be getting in the smallest plane yet, a 3 seater Robin, which will take me to Neuchâtel Colombier airfield in Switzerland. There, I will play the Poulenc and Saint-Saëns clarinet sonatas and some other pieces, then flying back to Sion airport in the Valais Alps. Really hoping the weather is going to hold.

Enjoyed reading these reports as I fly light aircraft myself and have a share in a PA28.

In 2023, I flew a 3 day trip from my home base over to Bielefeld via Belgium and the Netherlands, did some sightseeing and then returned via Netherlands, Belgium and Calais. What impressed me was the very good condition of the small airfields in Germany that we landed at, much better than most of the airfields here in the UK.

Concerto Nov 17, 2024 2:37 pm

Oh I'd love to go to Bielefeld BFE with you. Who knows, we might completely disappear, because Bielefeld doesn't really exist!

The German airfields are indeed nicely maintained, as are the ones in Switzerland. In the UK there are less aerodromes for private planes because the military control most small airfields. Now Italy - you need to fly to Nicelli on Lido di Venezia island...that must be the loveliest airport in the world.

Ive heard this theory, even discussed it with German friends. However, if it doesn’t exist, explain this…..

Taken from the tower; my aircraft is the Piper PA28 head onto us.

Lovely. You park on the grass like we did recently at Stadtlohn-Vreden Flugplatz, as well as at Speyer-Ludwigshafen. Stadtlohn is north of the Ruhrgebiet, very close to the Dutch border. The next one I want to do is Arnsberg Menden.

I saw Arnsberg from the air as we were flying in the vicinity of the Mohnesee, we did consider using it as a stop off place for a refuel but went to Meschede-Schüren instead as the cafe does an amazing currywurst and chips. In case you didn’t already know, currywurst and chips is food of the gods for those of us who served in the British Armed Forces in Germany.

Not as much as food of the gods, as food of the you, if you know the history.

Also you are all making me jealous. GA. And Pipers. Someone shows up with a Zlin report or a Morava and I'll blow a fuse.

Concerto Nov 20, 2024 1:35 am

Ah, currywurst is wonderful. But some of these little airfields harbour some really quite good restaurants. For example, Aachen (AAH) and Mülheim/Essen (ESS). And yes, for a freak like me, most of these little airports have (probably unofficial) 3-letter IATA codes! But there seems to be a divergence of which code is the “right” one because sometimes I find them at Wikipedia or other online sources, then Flightradar24 lists a completely different one. I tend to trust Flightradar24 as a source of information.

I have a flight scheduled tomorrow at Lausanne Blecherette (QYL) airfield (although obviously these are not “scheduled” flights as such). Plan is to fly over the huge Lac Léman, the Dents-du-midi mountains and land at Sion (SIR). But it’s not going to happen, the weather is really atrocious and getting worse at the moment.

The only sensible explanation for that is that you're part of the conspiracy.
I had thought better of you. :D

I’m part of the conspiracy that says it does exist when if doesn’t? Ooh-er!

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...57701eeaa.jpeg

Then why is it shown on aviation charts? 🤔

They are fake, too. Obviously.

(In the late 1990s, cab view films were polular on German TV. One of the rides was Dortmund - Hannover, with an alleged stop at Bielefeld. There were works around Bielefeld station, and all that could be seen on the cab ride was scaffolding either side of the train line, and the platforms themselves (but not the actual station building, or any other buildings). Cue conspiracy theorists using the footage as "proof" that Bielefeld didn't exist.)

I loved your reviews Concerto ! I actually just registered to comment on your thread, its rare to see people who share my same interests online.
I wonder, did you ride the smallest airplane yet?
