Back in the lounge after about an hours wander around the shops and a stroll down to the C gates. Travel adaptors are about double the online price, no surprise there so I will wait until Monday to order a replacement.
On exiting the lounge the first sight that greeted me was this. This is the passport control experience I am used to in Schiphol https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...49ba1d831.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...95718d404.jpeg Some random photos from the shops https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...3c8e24fd1.jpeg How many Stroopwafels! https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f388faa9b.jpeg Where’s the FT one? https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f8e43a60f.jpeg You must really love KLM to buy these…. Or really hate the recipient https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...77c70837a.jpeg No comment, none, nada https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...90813be04.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e8b178958.jpeg My favourite outlet, love the positioning and the huge backdrop And lastly down to the C gates which offer good views airside over both the odd and even number gates https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2cd80947e.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...39c78830a.jpeg Finally, whoever landed that up on the roof deserves a pay rise :D https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f38f861ce.jpeg |
Now tucked away in the corner of the lounge enjoying a small beer and some rice crackers
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8016bc894.jpeg All the wandering around has made the first two and a half hours of this transit fly by and there is only 90 minutes or so left until it will be time to go to gate. No further plans until it is time to leave the lounge other than sit back and chill. I don’t know what time the lounge switches over to lunch but if it is 11am I may be back with a few updated buffet pictures, otherwise next update at the gate. |
I have this nice product which - with 4x usb ports - lets me charge everything I carry simultaneously from a single power socket almost anywhere in the world (damn you Switzerland!). Available in the electronics shop at Schiphol :-)
edit: I see you spotted how much they overcharge you at Schiphol. Unfortunately I was in an emergency situation when I got mine so had to swallow that... |

Thanks etiene I travel with iPad and iPhone and the only adaptors supplied are the UK standard ones so I don’t lug those around, just have a bag full of cables and a power brick or sometimes two on longer trips, along with a couple of multi adaptors. To be honest it’s not a major issue, I just have to be a bit smarter in sequential charging rather than just jamming everything on charge and forgetting about it all :D

You do have to buy them out separately, true - and of course Apple kit isn't cheap. IME though the adapters are basically indestructible, so one brick and the international travel pack [a collection of different socket attachments] plus one iPhone charger for US and one for EU will cover two devices over the majority of travel destinations. The UK/EU/US sockets just live in my travel backpack front pocket so I never have to think about any of it unless the Wife is bringing her godawful work supplied windows brick...!

Lunch switchover was indeed 11am and this is the lunchtime offering

A ten minute stroll to the gate and boarding commenced just as I arrived, perfect timing. Our conveyance for this leg
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...357e2f711.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f33144a9e.jpeg Flighty is suggesting a ten minute departure delay and a seventeen minute arrival delay so I can only assume that is ATC related as people are streaming on board and we are 30 minutes from planned departure. For now it is time to buckle up and…. Next stop, Malaga |

Safe travels and happy landings. Plenty of snow at the side of the runway here in Amsterdam but a balmy -1C, considerably warmer than Chitose

In counterpoint to the Newcastle flight this morning, the Malaga flight is completely full so there were many announcements for storing baggage.
Flighty turned out to be right and KLM obviously knows how long it takes to board the Malaga plane when it is a full passenger compliment, and the answer is, a LONG time! Finally all on board and doors closed seven minutes after scheduled departure and then the pilots announcement that ATC has given a slot in ten minutes time. Then followed something I had never heard before. ‘We have taken on some extra fuel in order to fly a little bit faster and make up the time’! Eventually we pushed back around fifteen minutes after our scheduled departures and were in the air another fifteen minutes later. A three hour flight to Malaga and with four rows in business class there was no great pressure on the crew. Around the twenty minute mark warm towels were distributed and collected. Twenty minutes after the towels the meal and drinks service began. The prawn salad was not to my taste however the little spiced fries were moreish and the macarons very enjoyable. I was surprised to see some hot food on KLM, and the warmed quiche was pretty good. All washed down with a coffee and a small Heineken. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...be963d2e8.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...486db31f0.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...83fb6c9ae.jpeg We had company for a short time but we quickly overtook them, the pilots clearly putting all that extra fuel to good use. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...89b3abf51.jpeg Another first for me on a KLM flight, shortly after the food debris was cleared away the captain came into the business cabin and had a chat with a few people. Some great view on the way here https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a79a305f7.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b198de437.jpeg The rest of the flight was comprised of the final episode of the season of Blacklist that I’ve been watching for quite some time, and the first episode of Reacher season 2 plus one or two more miniature Heineken:) Driver located eventually as he was nowhere near the pickup spot specified on the text message and now in the car and heading to the hotel. The one surprise on landing is that it has been raining heavily for the past couple of hours. According to the driver it was really warm this morning and then the heavens opened. It is still looking very overcast and threatening but I’m not too concerned as I have no plans this evening aside from a very early night! |
By the time we reached the hotel the rain was falling again. Check in was quick and easy and up to the room. I’m not overly enthused by the room, it’s a bit minimalist for my taste but I’m only here two nights so not really an issue

The hotel reception and bar areas

A quick glance at the menu and they have ‘ham and eggs’ with padron peppers. The last time I had this was in a backstreet bar in Madrid maybe five or six years ago and, hopefully, will be just the thing to help me towards a food coma :) |
Very detailed TR, as always.
Enjoy your trip, and I hope all goes well. |
