Almost all passengers had alighted from the train by this time
The auto coaches were being disassembled in groups of five and moved to a different area for the cars to be offloaded
Check-in area at Lorton (this was too early to check in of course)
This was the exit for us to use when picking up our vehicles
Self-explanatory
They had similar signs set up at boarding
The two locomotives that pulled our train here
Far away, you can see the engine in charge of shunting the auto coaches around
Another angle ...
... and yet another
Driving into DC from Lorton
Son's accommodation was not yet ready for occupancy so we decided to park the car at a suburb and take the metro into town. A couple of photos of the metro statopm...
... and one more
Escalators out of the metro station
One of the buildings in DC - unsure if this was the Supreme Court ...
... or if this one was!!
Self explanatory again
Spent some time at the Smithsonian stamp museum where I cheked out this unique archive of all the countries/kingdoms that have issued stamps even if for a few days only.
I focused on the places I have visited such as Croatia ...
Montenegro ...
Serbia (yet to visit but a good buddy is from there) ...
Austria ...
France (I liked this unique stamp) ...
... Germany (which has many sub-exhibits, including but not limited to: East Germany, West Germany, etc)
Some unique statues ...
... near the Supreme Court building I believe
From different angles
Biking through DC neighborhoods with a buddy who lives there
On the way to the airport to catch my flight home
Last leg of my DC trip is about to start

Your top photo is the Supreme Court and the 2nd one is Union Station. Its a fantastic venue inside - got to look up when you are in there!

I've been inside Union Station, of course (though not on this trip). But from outside, all these ginormous DC buildings ... #facepalm
I had taken photos of a few buildings as I walked around. I thought this was one of the other ones.

Here are the final few photos from this trip. I managed to snag a window seat on the Southwest flight to Atlanta. But before I boarded, I had to endure some anxious moments as Southwest announced a 25 minute delay.
Given that I had a 50 minute connection at Atlanta, I was worried that I might miss my flight to Orlando. I need not have worried. The flight to Atlanta left only about ten minutes late and managed to make up time - I was easily able to make my connection.
The flight to Orlando was quite empty. It was literally the most sparsely filled plane I have ever been on. The flight attendants ensured that everyone was well spread out. I believe there was just me and another passenger occupying the last five rows of the aircraft!
As a result of the short delay in taking off, I had given up all hopes of a good sunset photo. But I had still strategically picked a right side window seat...
I was pleasantly surprised to see the sun rise from the west, as it were lol!!
The ground faded below us
As our plane climbed, the sun got higher as well
Second sunset of the day for me :-)
But the scenery outside the plane stayed pretty static all the way
... through up to ...
... Atlanta ....
... on the landing approach!
Now that I have completed this travelog, I can refocus on completing the Europe trip report .... which will be followed by the current trip report/.
