Great review thank you.
The Virgin 787s really are a huge let down next to the A350 and even more the A339. If they have a plan to upgrade them they are keeping it a secret. IME, Virgin do not generally upgrade cabins but the 787s are relatively new with a business cabin that was out of date twenty years ago. I'm currently avoiding them for this reason.

When I'm not walking slow, I'm in a wheelchair. When I'm walking I try to stay aware so that I'm not blocking or slowing down people. So when I'm in a wheelchair and we can't get people to get out of the way, it makes me angry. Obliviousness thy name is traveler. So not DYKWIA in my opinion. It's not your fault they didn't get out of the way when you politely gave them the chance.

Interesting report - quite the family vacation! Commenting because my experience in Lisbon with the pastel de nata was the exact opposite of yours. Found Pasteis de Belem to be overhyped while Manteigaria absolutely nailed it with strength of flavour combined with a truly flaky crust. No contest. We may just have different preferences, or one or both of us caught a better/worse batch at one. Guess I'll just have to go back and try again...!!
