Chateau du Grand-Lucé
Let's get to the room. The 20 rooms in the castle are all different and have their advantages and disadvantages from the paper form. It took us quite a long time to choose. The hotel has hardly any rooms with separate living room and bedroom, often there is no difference between suites and rooms. For us, it was important to have a bathroom with shower, bathtub and ideally a window, as well as a decent seating area in the room. In the end, the Corner King Suite Village View had all that. With 56 square meters it was quite large and it had a nice seating area. The only "disadvantage" is that you do not look at the park, but on the right of way. With just under 1000 € per night it was not quite cheap, but the other rooms are also not cheaper. Meanwhile, the room is sold as Corner King Room Scenic View.
The number of the room was 2.
From a small hallway it went left towards the bathroom. In front of the bathroom was a small anteroom with an old cupboard, on the left was the toilet.
The bathroom was not very big, but nice. Actually everything you need. A nice touch was that there was, for example, the bathroom items in a small bag on which a note hung, it now belongs to us.
I would describe the room as a classic junior suite. The furnishings were classic, but matched the castle perfectly. The furniture was antique and very high quality for my liking. The only thing missing was a TV. But that didn't really bother us.
Now about the bed: very nice in itself and also comfortable. We were given 2 large blankets, which was perfect. The only problem was the footboard. Due to its construction, you could, if you stretched his legs at night, already times nicely maltretieren his foot. I can confirm that the big toe and the toenail do not find it so great when you hit the sides with it. At least then you are awake and move more carefully afterwards.

King of the castle
After we moved into the room, we wanted to look at the garden of the castle. As soon as we arrived downstairs, we were welcomed by the lord of the castle. With loud meowing one came towards us, the tail of course straight as a 1.
One picked up his owed strokes, a friendly little cat.
We were then escorted for a little while before his majesty went back to his business.

The most impressive thing about the castle is its park, which is also pointed out on the highway. A day pass for the gardens costs €30.00 per person, but I did not notice any external guests. For 75.00 € one may still in the castle and in the pool, for 250.00 € a day room comes in addition.
The gardens are really exceptional for a hotel, the most beautiful hotel gardens I have ever seen.

The hotel makes some hype about its pool. The positive thing to mention is that the pool fits perfectly into the park.
The area around the pool alone is a small park in itself. Nearby is also the greenhouse and in the basement of the old stables is a bar (not used).
As for the actual value of the pool, it is more to look at than to use. The water was quite cool and the pool is much too small for real swimming. Since it is quite deep and there are no benches, it is also not very suitable for relaxing. It's still nice, but I only used it once. I saw more people on the loungers, but no one in the water.

In the evening we ate in the hotel restaurant. Besides the guest room inside we could sit outside, which we did. You can choose between a casual menu and the gastronomic menu. Again and again it is emphasized that it is a gastronomic restaurant, apparently they think we are not quite so familiar with haute cuisine (happens more often in France, as if we had lost our way).
Here there was a 3-course menu at 75 € with 2 choices per course.
First, a pretty decent cucumber cream with salmon and buckwheat caviar as an amuse bouche.
For starters I chose langoustine.
That was pretty neat.
GF took red mullet with various vegetables.
She wasn't particularly taken with it now, but it wasn't bad.
For our main course, we both had turbot, each of which looked a little different.
The dish tasted good.
As a pre-dessert we had passion fruit ice cream, which was refreshing.
For dessert GF had rhubarb with a pink pepper chantilly.
I have to say the chantilly was inedible, almost disgusting. Heavy (greasy) and unpleasant taste. For me a total failure, you can not serve such a thing to guests.
I had noney ice parfait, which was quite good.
Unfortunately, the dinner was not overwhelming, I would call it with the exception of the one dessert "quite decent". In any case, you don't have to go here for the food.

Let's turn our attention to breakfast. On the first evening we had asked until when you could have breakfast in the morning and the answer was surprisingly generous with 12 o'clock. When we arrived at the restaurant shortly after 11, there was a yawning emptiness. Also demand we learned that breakfast actually goes until 10:30 and we could only get a continental. This meant a hot drink, bakery basket and jam. Even if we could sit at the nicest table outside, rather a modest breakfast (restrained expressed).
The next mornings we were earlier at breakfast and there was also a menu.
I wondered about the prices on the menu, but we had breakfast included. So times diligently order. If you did not explicitly order fresh orange juice, there was a rather simple instant product.
The quality was not exactly outstanding, but quite OK. If you look at the prices on the menu and what you got for it, the price-performance ratio was rather not so great. Both the Frensh Toast, as well as the avocado (spoiler: In Paris, something like that costs 34 €!) the hotel can´t stop laughing in view of the goods.
It probably comes as little surprise to the gentle reader that when I checked out, I still had a nice amount on my bill for the breakfasts. If I had realized that properly, I would not have ordered anything extra. At hotel prices, I find it simply embarrassing to include a measly breakfast for guests and then slap on dishes. Since you should rather make the room 30 € more expensive (is also not further noticeable).

Le Mans cathedral
But now a little sightseeing. We went to Le Mans, which is quite close to Grand Luce. The highlight of Le Mans is the gothic cathedral. Who likes Strebewerk must love the cathedral, especially in the area of the choir.
The cathedral is also impressive from the inside. Once again, there were impressive stained glass windows to see.

Le Mans Jardin des Plantes
By chance, we passed by car the Botanical Garden of the city of Le Mans, which is primarily a rose garden. It really is a wonderful park and while it is very well kept, it doesn't even charge admission.
