Day 3. Dawn on the morning of day 3 where the weather didn't seemed to know if it wanted to be sunny or rainy. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...7/XL/91-XL.jpg I then headed out for a morning run. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...6/XL/92-XL.jpg The sky now overcast and some rain soon incoming. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...c/XL/93-XL.jpg After being soaked after the morning shower of rain the skies quickly cleared again in time for one last alfresco breakfast. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...c/XL/94-XL.jpg At about 11am we checked out of the hotel, packed the car and then began the drive to the Radisson Blu Poste Lafayette Resort & Spa via Bras d'Eau Public Beach. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...3/XL/95-XL.jpg Sugarcane fields on both sides of the tree lined road. Unlike the highway from the airport to Grand Baie the roads were two lane only. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...3/XL/96-XL.jpg Stopping for a short hike in Bras D'Eau National Park. The national park is one of only two on the main island. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...f/XL/97-XL.jpg And at the white sand at Bras d'Eau Public Beach. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...6/XL/98-XL.jpg Obligatory cheesey foot in the sand photo. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...3/XL/99-XL.jpg Bras d'Eau translates as 'Arm of Water' and refers to the body of water that winds it way inland between Belcourt Bay and Point Radeau. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/100-XL.jpg Looking down on the Constance Prince Maurice Hotel. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/101-XL.jpg A small isle bottom-left with rain falling in the distance. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/102-XL.jpg We then went up the coast to Poste La Fayette Public Beach. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/103-XL.jpg With the strong easterly wind coming straight in from the Indian ocean it was a popular place for kitesurfing. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/104-XL.jpg They were quite impressive to see racing across the sea. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/105-XL.jpg And braving the choppy surf as the waves break over the reef. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/106-XL.jpg We then carried on to the Radisson Blu Poste Lafayette Resort & Spa. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/107-XL.jpg Welcome cool drink, towel and cookie at check in. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/108-XL.jpg And our room for $240 for the night including dinner and breakfast for two. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/109-XL.jpg I loved the minimalist and simple design. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/110-XL.jpg And the sea view from our balcony. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/111-XL.jpg Getting my feet and sandals drenched as we went for a stroll along the beach. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/112-XL.jpg A sea urchin washed ashore. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/113-XL.jpg Unfortunately the wind steadily increased into the afternoon along with sporadic rain so we just chilled in our room. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/114-XL.jpg Once the rain abated I decided to chance my drone in the brisk sea breeze. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/115-XL.jpg It handled the gusty winds with no issues though. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/116-XL.jpg The milky seas waves breaking over the reef with dark ominous clouds enveloping over the mountains in the distance. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/117-XL.jpg The hotel was relatively new and opened in September 2015. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/118-XL.jpg The sun about to set to the north-east. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/119-XL.jpg And the hotel now all lit up at dusk. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/120-XL.jpg In the evening we went to the main restaurant for the buffet dinner. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/121-XL.jpg Oysters, shellfish salad and sea urchin to start. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/122-XL.jpg Fish, chicken, calamari with some rice and paratha for the main. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/123-XL.jpg And enjoying a selection of the tasty desserts at the end of day 3. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/124-XL.jpg |
Day 4. Although the rain had gone and the sun was out shining this morning, the wind was still fairly strong and the sun loungers were all empty. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/125-XL.jpg Tasty crepes, bacon, sausage and samosas for breakfast at the hotel restaurant. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/126-XL.jpg After checking out we started the drive across the island to the south-west corner to the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort for our final night. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/127-XL.jpg Stopping to admire the beautiful tree-lined road leading to Alexander Falls. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/128-XL.jpg The falls are located inside Black River Gorges National Park. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/129-XL.jpg Establised in 1994, the park protects most of the island's remaining rainforest. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/130-XL.jpg After the brief taste of nature we headed to the Rhumerie de Chamarel, a rum distillery with its own sugarcane plantation in Chamarel. The tour was 400 rupees ($11) per person and luckily the English tour was just departing. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/131-XL.jpg The boutique distillery is one of the few remaining independent rum distilleries in the world. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/132-XL.jpg Our guide showing us the machinery where the sugarcane is crushed and processed. It was undergoing maintenance in preparation for the upcoming harvest season from July to December. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/133-XL.jpg As well as the interesting insight into the rum production, it was quite a delight listening to our guide with her beautiful Mauritian-French accent. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/134-XL.jpg After the fresh sugarcane juice is filtered, it is filled into stainless steel vats to start the fermentation process. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/135-XL.jpg Stopping for the complimentary mid-tour rum cocktail. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/136-XL.jpg After fermentation the rum is then double distilled in these copper columns. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/137-XL.jpg The ageing cellar where the rum is kept fr up to 6 years in French and American oak barrels. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS...XL/137A-XL.jpg And about to taste their range with everything from their classic white rum to the coffee liquer. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/138-XL.jpg Unfortunately Rianda had to make do with just a whiff of the rich and flavorful smells. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/139-XL.jpg And buying a bottle of the siced rum to take home. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/140-XL.jpg After a short drive down the mountain we arrived at the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/141-XL.jpg And inside the grand lobby. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/142-XL.jpg Welcome drink, cookies and cool towel. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/143-XL.jpg We were then led to our accomodation. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/144-XL.jpg The beautiful plantation-style resort had plenty of palm trees. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/145-XL.jpg Our double sea view room including half-board was $386 for our night night stay. There a few interesting old photos on the wall depicting life on Mauritius as it once was in black and white http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/146-XL.jpg Complete with cute welcome arrangement on the bed. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/147-XL.jpg The spacious bathroom with large double bath. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/148-XL.jpg Terrace with table and chairs. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/149-XL.jpg And a short walk away was the main resort pool. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/150-XL.jpg The lounger lined pool with the green grass to the north and the sandy beach to the south. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/151-XL.jpg The pier leading out to the reef waters. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/152-XL.jpg And a great spot for another holiday snap. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/153-XL.jpg Looking down on the west-side of the resort with the main Mercado buffet restaurant top-right. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/154-XL.jpg The sugarcane fields of Bel Ombre in the background. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/155-XL.jpg The southern coastline of the island extending to the east. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/156-XL.jpg And the sun beginning to set to the west. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/157-XL.jpg In the evening we went to Mercado, the main buffet restaurant. Rather than have one main food station, they had several smaller ones situated around the restaurant with each one dedicated to different cuisines including North and South Asian, European, Mediterranean and local Mauritian cuisine. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/158-XL.jpg Seafood soup to start. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/159-XL.jpg And a tasty selection from the Mauritian cuisine selection including wild pig and fresh mussels. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/160-XL.jpg Rianda also managed to find some of her favorite South African dishes including Bobotie. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/161-XL.jpg And finishing with some sweet indulgence from the wide range of desserts. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/162-XL.jpg Day 5. Up before dawn with the blue light of dusk casting a beautiful glow over the southern coast. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/166-XL.jpg To the west with Le Morne Brabant Mountain, a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Morne_Brabant, visible. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/163-XL.jpg Sunlight beginning to filter through the clouds to the north. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/164-XL.jpg A panorama with the breaking waves ringing the coast. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/165-XL.jpg Fields of sugarcane below. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/167-XL.jpg The sun finally starting to break though. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/168-XL.jpg The four resort swimming pools now visible from above. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/169-XL.jpg And the morning sun now casting a warm glow. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/170-XL.jpg I then went out for a morning jog. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/171-XL.jpg And valiantly tried to work off some of the overindulgence the night before! http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/172-XL.jpg A delicious alfresco breakfast back at the hotel including fish balls, streaky bacon and a big pot of coffee. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/173-XL.jpg We then went for a dip in the hotel pool. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/174-XL.jpg And then relaxed on a couple of sun loungers on the beach. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/175-XL.jpg Unfortunately the tide was too low to go kayaking so I had a quick swim with the tiger damselfish on the resort reef instead. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/176-XL.jpg Our five days of relaxation unfortunately had to come to an end however and just before 12pm we checked out of the resort and began the drive back to the airport. Fuelling up the little Nissan in Mare D'Albert before dropping it back to Sixt. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/177-XL.jpg And about to check-in for our 16:35 flight back to Dubai. http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/178-XL.jpg I was able to check-in online earlier in the day but Rianda was locked out for some reason. At the check-in counter we learn't that the flight was oversold and that she wouldn't get her seat assignment until at the gate! After a bit of panic, the agent quickly clarified that their was enough seats on the plane but just economy was oversold. Rianda eventually got her seat assignment just before boarding, albeit 20 rows behind me unfortunately. And about to board the Emirates A380 at the end of a very relaxing five days in Mauritius! http://www.dsw-photo.com/Photos/MRTS.../XL/179-XL.jpg |
Amazing, as usual, trip report. Your photography is amazing and captures a sense of almost being there myself.
Sorry to hear about the mugging. Smart of you to keep your passports in the hotel safe! Last and not least, does Dubai International Airport have any daytime operating hours? LOL |
Thank you for sharing another wonderful trip report DanielW!!! I'm glad to read the robbery didn't turn into something worse than an inconvenience and some shaken nerves.

100 € per night sounds really like a great price👍

great TR as always with amazing pictures and information!
Big kudos on the wedding - I recall past TRs with Rianda and I missed that you wed last year. Big yay. Is the second trimester related to school?? also I’m sorry about the thievery situation. Ugh. My wife lost her wallet during our pre-wedding in Italia. Thankfully she recovered fast from it. |
Another fantastic TR from you. :)
That looked such a beautiful place to visit but :( at the theft. With bubs' arrival, does this mean trips will be curtailed? |
Great TR! What sort of drone do you have?
|
How did I miss that you two got married and now expecting? Congrats on both.
Sorry to hear about the mugging. Glad it wasn't too bad, all things considered. Another great trip report with spectacular drone shots. |
Great report. So sorry to hear about the robbery at the restaurant. That type of thing can certainly dampen a trip in a big way, but it looked like it did not impact your enjoyment of your trip otherwise. How frustrating though.
Beautiful photos as always. Love the overhead shots of the boat with the parachute behind! |
Great photos, sorry to hear about the robbery.
Also, congratulations on the wedding and on the second trimester. Sleep while you can! ;):) |

I particularly love Mauritius. I find it an interesting place for an island holiday. I haven't had any issues with theft there however.
Aside from potentially getting the licence plate of the bike, I think you'd be rest assured that there isn't much that you can do about it at the time. There is a mild risk when confronting someone in a foreign county; especially over something as simple as property. Fortunately, like you, I've only had 1 attempted mugging in Rio de Janeiro after some 67 countries visited. I find, the best practice, is to not take anything you're not prepared to lose. An irritating circumstance for sure. |
